I recently rewatched this very nice little early 80s flick (which is more reminiscent of THE EXORCIST than AMITYVILLE, really, but that's another story), and what sprang to my attention was the powerful music by Lalo Schifrin.

Any chances of releasing that solid horror score?

There are a few too many shattered glass stingers, but there is some terrific music here. I'd love a release.

Powerful movie, the family murders were cut badly on UK VHS/DVD.

Love this score for its outright aggression hardly any delicate moments i recall, the choral passages, motif's & elements are crafted to a greater effect much more intense & deep, the string sections sound very dominating pieces over the original, especially when an after the murders, hell, happy customer here if released.

Watched the movie the other day and really would love to see the score released. Any chance from those in the know around here?

Would be a grail for me. Probably the first movie I saw as a kid whose music I recognized as frightening. Also a good sequel score in that it doesn't just adapt the cues of the first score. In fact, the main title is a different melody altogether, though it shares the same orchestral color.

Also of note, Lalo chose not to use the brass or woodwind section, setting this score apart from the first.

Yeah, this was also a big nostalgic score from my childhood. I'd snap one up in a second. Creepy stuff

It's always amazed me that this one hasn't been released yet, or at least a story behind its hold up.
Horror scores are good sellers, Lalo Schifrin is a popular old school A list composer.
It's a well known, popular title AND sequel score too.
Very strange.

Also, didn’t Quartet’s release of the first one sell out fairly quickly?

Add me to the list. I love the film, and would really enjoy comparing the sequel score to the first.

Yes Jeff, the Quartet release, which greatly improved the original Aleph issue, with actual film score tracks, original LP edits and superior sound, was a fast sell-out and goes for some crazy prices now.
I hope Quartet negotiated the sequel score rights when they bagged the original score.

Remember reading an interview with Schifrin about this in CinemaScore. He had to write a different theme because the film was from a different studio; the harmonic structure is almost identical, but the melody is different. Used some early digital synthesizers too.

That's right. The first film was from American International Pictures (AIP) and the second was Dino DeLaurentiis himself and it was distributed by Orion Pictures which is why MGM owns the rights on home video.

The best thing of this film is Schifrin's music without a doubt. I'd like to see it released too for that reason but I hate the film itself. Yes for a release of the score and No to the film.
