It still amazes how even elderly character actors wore rugs into the Seventies!
Check out the Sheriff from THE RIFLEMAN as an exemplar of this silliness!

Oh, the vanity!

It's The Glass Menagerie.

That's it. Don't tell Kenyon Hopkins that I own this.

Oh, I almost forgot, "Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe" is another of Mancini's combover scores that I like. He is channeling Morricone in parts of this one.

"combover scores"

...and thus, a genre was born.

One must also consider the Boomer hegemony in terms of bad fashion. In every decade in which that generation dominated, fashion took a serious credibility "hit." Bell bottoms, hair helmets, gold chains, puffy hair and shoulder pads, sleeves pulled up on suit jackets--music hardly had a chance.

I blame the Boomers (aka The Millennials 1.0).

Me too; interesting and amusing discussion, I think.
I'm pretty big on correlation, however "correlation does not imply causation".

My wife claims that Sgt. Pepper, despite the hype, is the worst Beatles album, and it is apparently their only album in which all four simultaneously have facial hair.

Perhaps she hasn't heard "Magical Mystery Tour" then. Tell her to smoke a joint and then re-listen to SPLHCB.

She prefers Magical Mystery Tour. She says they don't all have facial hair on that one.

[William McCrum Filter] Sgt Pepper's is best listened to as if it were a feverish Victorian journey--something imagined rather than (vaguely) remembered. Forget the 1960s, think 1860s.[/William McCrum Filter]

Of course, no matter how much intellectual "gravy" one pours over that album to make it more palatable, the opening strains of "Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite" will reinforce Mrs. Onya's opinion of said album.

Other than "A Day in the Life"--a hilarious song that drug-addled hippies/yuppies fail to understand--Pepper's best track is the run-off groove babble. Genius!

As for MMT, "Hey Bulldog" is the best thing this side of Help (the song) the band ever did, even if it's on Yellow Submarine.

She's not like Hippie Johnny. She's straight.

Also, she doesn't "hate" Sgt. Pepper; she merely thinks that it is among their "least good" albums. She also thinks it falls short as a psychedelic album.

But let's not let discussion of these fossilized mop tops detour what this thread is about: Mr. Henry Mancini and his Magnificent Combover!
