Anyone who loves dogs should not see the film or read the book. You'll be sicken to your stomach and horrified and you'll never get over it. But cool to have the soundtrack out of CD.

Actually, one SHOULD read Richard Adams' novel, because IMO it's a fine example of modern literature.

For one, the novel's narrative is a more balanced one. The film is much, much more depressing overall. Director Martin Rosen chose to focus on the tragic existence that befell Rowf and Snitter in a much more direct and sobering manner. The novel, on the other hand, doesn't adhere to such a monochromatic aesthetic. (MILD SPOILER) Adams carefully and expertly crafted a "dual ending" so readers can go with whichever one they prefer.

I've been a fan of Rosen's film for years, and yes it's a mind-blower.

It's far from being a very cheerful film, the score reflects, but has some lovely moments.

FYI - from the Notes:
To present the story’s ethical focus concerning animal experimentation, Rosen’s second film was much more straightforward, and arguably appropriately so; however with a marketing tagline of “Escape to a different world...And share the adventure of a lifetime,” even its PG-13 rating failed to prepare audiences for the film’s uncompromisingly realistic treatment – especially families who brought their kids expecting a fun cartoon adventure about dogs running free in Northwestern England. The film’s bleakness, its lack of a cathartic resolution, is in fact its emotive power and ensures the story’s moral persuasion remains in mind long after it is over. (The ending of the film is, in fact, the original ending of Adams’ book, which his publisher insisted be changed to a more upbeat conclusion prior to publication).

With a title like PLAGUE DOGS, maybe audiences shouldn't have expected a care-free movie. But who has time to read or watch? It's easier to multitask while playing the soundtrack.

There was no PG-13 rating in 1982.

Definitely interested in this. Question: What does the CD/Digital combo mean? Is there a download code or are the MP3s encoded onto the CD?

Once you purchase the items you were informed it will take a few moments to prepare the download which will be given to you so you won’t get none only 24 bit version but also in iTunes friendly version with a digital booklet .

Is anyone purchase it directly from the website and gotten this yet?

Ford A. Thaxton

Yep. Purchased it and received the download. Listening to it now. Good stuff!

BTW, check our the STAR WARS album he did, it's a lot of fun:

Even with a title like Plague Dogs one could think it's a fantasy/monster movie, not animal torture. Anyway, it was just a warning for people who like me who can't stomach such things. Enjoy the book or film as you will.

Possibly, but the point is noone has even mentioned the title might reflect the content. Nowadays, there's a target audience for gore and torture movies but they would find this pretty tame.

Yeah, that's a nice album!

I just wish Gleeson's solo albums Beyond the sun: an electronic portrait of Holst's the Planets (1976) and Rainbow delta (1979) were available on CD or as digital downloads. The latter one is great.

All Good things come to those who wait....

I can confirm that his FOUR SEASONS album is coming back in print

It's been newly remastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland and sounds great.
