THURSDAY, AUGUST 17

STAR WARS RESISTANCE---trailer released for the new animated series.

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH_Ws7sA468

THE ANGEL OF DARKNESS---TNT miniseries underway based on the sequel novel to THE ALIENIST. Daniel Bruhl, Luke Evans and Dakota Fanning will return. The plot involves Sara Howard, now a private detective, who seeks help from Dr. Laszlo Kreizler in locating Ana Linares, the kidnapped daughter of a Spanish dignitary.

GREEN LANTERN CORPS---sources say Tom Cruise was the lead candidate to play Hal Jordan, but withdrew because Jordan is killed off and Cruise wanted him to remain alive. However, Cruise may still be the lead candidate for the role. Christopher McQuarrie, a frequent Cruise collaborator, was earlier mentioned as a candidate to direct the movie.

THE TIME MACHINE---Sky is developing a tv series based on the HG Wells novel. Nick Payne (THE CROWN) is the writer. The original 1960 movie starred Rod Taylor.

AVENGERS---director Peyton Reed wants Evangeline Lilly to star in a Wasp-led all female avengers movie, "I’d like her running things. I’d like to see her as the head of the all-female Avengers. I know Evangeline sort of said ... maybe that would be Captain Marvel, because she does have the word 'captain' in her name. But I think Hope van Dyne is a very decisive leader and a tactician, in addition to being a brilliant scientist. So she checks a lot of boxes in terms of who’s going to be running the Avengers, theoretically."

THE TOMMYKNOCKERS---Universal Pictures movie underway based on the Stephen King novel. Jeremy Slater (THE EXORCIST tv series) will write the script.

BLUMHOUSE PRODUCTIONS---Jason Blum said, "Chances are excellent" that Blumhouse Productions will acquire rights to other horror movies as it did with the new HALLOWEEN sequel. Blum said it passed on a remake of Steve McQueen's THE BLOB and tried to get Stephen King's CHRISTINE. He hopes to get the rights to FRIDAY THE 13TH.

LOST---Carlton Cuse said if ABC reboots LOST, he will not be involved, but offered suggestions on a reboot, "Damon [Lindelof] and I have always been adamant that we told the story that we wanted to tell. I would be fine if ABC hired somebody who ?had a good idea [to reboot it] involving other characters that go to the island at some other point ?in time. I would be less excited if they wanted to use the characters that we had in our show."

TREADSTONE---USA Network tv series underway which is a spinoff of the Jason Bourne movies. The series focuses on Operation Treadstone which trains superspy sleeper agents.

SEXY BEAST---prequel tv series underway to the 2000 gangster movie that starred Ben Kingsley, Ray Winstone and Ian McShane.

VAMPYR---tv series underway based on the video game. McG is the director/executive producer.

THE ROYALS---E! cancelled the series.

TRIVIA---in KELLY'S HEROES, the SS captain killed by Kelly (Clint Eastwood) is often listed as a cameo by Yves Montand, but in reality he is played by character actor David Gross.

A TV series prequel to Sexy Beast? Very odd. It had an interesting style i'm not sure would translate into a series. Also you won't have the great performances of Kingsley and Winstone.

I'd watch an all-female Avengers film. The Marvel films are an easy watch and i've only thought Black Panther and Dr Strange were pretty poor.

A Cruise-led Green Lantern could be interesting. He'd fit the role of Hal Jordan and Green Lantern has the potential to be great fun. Except it's DC and they'd inevitably mess it up.

Blumhouse are a terrible production company that make almost entirely forgettable sub-standard garbage that lack almost any creativity and seem designed to make their money back in the first weekend before everyone realises they've been duped. They're one of the bad things about the film industry.

The Alienist was decent television, I'd watch the sequel. The cast worked really well with each other and it looked great.

GREEN LANTERN - Kill him off? In the first film? That means they viewed the character and Mr. Cruise merely as a launching lever for (likely) younger actors. I can understand his disagreement with that.

I`m all for Game Of Thrones mortalities, but that's an awfully fast arrival at Death.

I maintain Cruise would make an excellent Hal Jordan. As with Downey Jr. for Iron Man (whom they did not kill off in the first movie... cough).

I always thought a sequel would be possible with Sir Ben playing Don’s brother Malcolm (who’s clearly referred to in the film) - a twin of course - going to Spain to figure out what actually happened. A sort of “Get Logan”.

Winstone and kingsley were the only reason sexy beast was more powerful and memorable gangster project than the 19th straight to dvd film about the essex boys!

If don had a brother - even if he was a crim - he would probably be glad to lose the unstable psycho out of his life, let alone go on a revenge Get carter mission.

This says prequel, so maybe a previous bank job with winstone's character before he went to spain? If so, why not use new characters anyway. They do seem obsessed with a hook in an established film but all it does is water down the power of the original. Should leave well alone.

The original article on the SEXY BEAST tv prequel says,

"The proposed prequel will be set in the ’90s when Gal and Don were partners working for Teddy. Deadline’s description of the series suggests that Gal will meet his future wife, DeeDee, while “descending into the seductive madness of the London criminal world during the vibrant and volatile 1990’s.”'
