It's probably a rerecording of the soundtrack to THE ISLAND (1980).

Varèse, where is the remastered and complete original soundtrack on CD?

L'isola is an Italian TV series from 2012. It has never been released before so I'm very glad it's coming. I'm even more glad it's coming out on CD as well!

Is it the original score?

On Chi Mai it says, "Ennio Morricone Composer Arranger; I Solisti e Orchestre del Cinema Italiano, Performer"

Which makes it look suspiciously like a cover version to me. frown

They were responsible for the "Dollars" trilogy a few years ago.

That doesn't sound so good. However, if they play it like the original I'm still in. I haven't heard their interpretation of the Dollars trilogy but it seems from the comments/reviews that it divided people.

The Dollars Trilogy was hit and miss, some of their covers were excellent, some were, to be polite, rubbish.

But, they did at least make the entire scores available, even if they aren't perfect.

You've got to give them credit for that.

The YouTube clip sounds like a cover version and judging by the record label "Recording Arts" which has released Morricone cover albums in the past, I also believe that this album consists of cover versions. Besides, the first cue in the clip ("Senza ritorno") is from another Morricone project, "Missus", and doesn't sound like the original. Though it's nice to have some new music by Morricone released, I'll probably skip this album because I find the synth mock-ups rather unpleasant to listen to.

Listening to the YouTube clip linked in the first post in this thread, it sounds like there is some wonderful, vintage Morricone music in this score... and that it is performed using samples, which is such a shame because I don't think I can bring myself to buy that, much though I would like to hear the music.

Anyone know why the original recording has not been released?

You're definitely right, James: this score has a lot of great stuff to offer, including a superb melody present in the YouTube suite, very close from an elegy the Maestro wrote for MI RICORDO ANNA FRANK, another unreleased TV score by the way. There are also many worthwhile suspense cues. As for the possible reason for not issuing these scores, I guess this has to do with the fact that the right owner RaiTrade at one point simply decided to stop releasing albums. What a pity!

You would think him being such a huge star in italy that every rai tv score would get a release as standard but many dont. Im surprised the maestro himself doesnt do a deal in the first place where the music gets a CD.

I'm not familiar with the TV series or the score and I know this is a rerecording but listening to samples it sounds pretty good to me so I've picked up the lossless download, just £10 at 7-digital.....

If the original tracks are ever released, I'll also be a buyer

Has anyone purchased a copy of this CD?
If so, what are your thoughts on both the music and the performance?
Would you recommend this CD to other Morricone fans?
Thanking you in advance for your reply!!!

It's a really ugly release.
Everything is badly sampled, there's only an acoustic guitar and something else.
Even a Duduk is terribly sampled...
I couldn't manage to go through the whole disc, it was so much frustrating I was tempted to throw it out of the window.
I ask myself why these people are doing such a bad service to Morricone's wonderful music.
Recordings like this one make Robert Lafond interpretations sound like a vintage John Elliot Gardiner performance with original instruments...
It's on you to decide but beware!
