So I watched this film today entirely as a fluke because I wanted to watch something that looked interesting and I hadn't heard of before:
Whoa.... what a great film! Whoever wrote this is and was a genius. I can't believe somebody predicted modern life/viewing habits etc and the future so accurately, and did it all in the 70s.
I'm not surprised this was nominated for BEST PICTURE and won four other Academy Awards, as I have also discovered today.
Anybody else seen or heard of this? Please recommend more films like it because I'm sick to death of trying to find and watch quality films from the past on Netflix/Hulu etc. I always seem to find the bad ones, and I really need more classic and old films like this in my life!

Sticking with American films of the 1970s, try some of these if you haven't tried them already:
All the President's Men (my choice for best of '76 over the worthy Network, Rocky and Taxi Driver) Chinatown The Conversation Dog Day Afternoon The Gambler ('74) The Parallax View Shampoo Smile

One of those four Oscars was for Paddy Chayefsky's original screenplay. Two other films written by Chayefsky that you should see: MARTY (1955) and THE AMERICANIZATION OF EMILY (1964).
I would also recommend watching THE HOSPITAL (1971), which features yet another caustic Paddy Chayefsky script (and an over the top Diana Rigg performance).
