Disc manufacturing plants are closing all over the States. I was talking with a friend recently regarding DVDs and heard the same details from him, that physical media is mostly now all manufactured outside of the US, then assembled here.

How much Jame's Honer music is there minus the big band cues?

Quite a lot though a few are blended together like in the long finale track. My only complaint is the shreaking noise that is part of one of the tracks that I wish I could cut out without removing the track entirely.

Two new tracks, Aerial Ballet and Flying Lessons are both fantastic and make it more surprising that they were left off of the original album. Neither is particularly big-band forward. Other shorter new cues are not too big-band focused except Cuban Memories.

Thanks, I've been on the fence. I had the original release back in the day and it had to much big band music for my tastes. I appreciate big band music but it's not something I care to listen to as a whole.

I actually like those Big Band cues. At the time of the movies release I was surprised how close it sounded to those COCOON band music cues. It's not the same but 20 years it sounded same to me.

Is it Cocoon 2 which has the exact same cue just re-recorded? Basketball swing I think?

It's not "exact", but it's damned close! I actually like the *bni version better!

I only had the LP back when it got released and I spent a lifetime looking for the CD. So you can imagine my happiness when Intrada released this one and what a beauty it is! Horner was as good as Williams or Goldsmith with stuff like this and the first listen brought tears to my eyes. Thanks a million, Intrada!!!

The sound on this is extraordinary! Night and day better than the muddy MCA CD.

Disc 1, track 14 plays fine on my copy - however, I do have a different problem. Disc 2, track 4 jams to a halt at 6:40 and the only way to continue is to skip to the next track.

It was going so well...

There are no marks on the disc. I've contacted the good folks at Intrada.

I'm sure you've tried this, be sure to try the disc in multiple players as well. smile

It's a known mfg. issue and we're working with the plant to get replacement discs. Ugh.

I have the same problem with disc 2, track 4, it freezes up at the 6:40 mark. What is being done?

Intrada is having disc 2 repressed. I recommend you contact whoever you bought it from and request a replacement disc when available. If you bought direct from Intrada then even better.

I'm on the fence about grabbing this one – I like the score, but recently, many expansions – even long-sought ones – have struck me as simply longer but not better. (There are exceptions.)

I also have a hard time not hearing "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" in the main big band theme (later used in "Cocoon: The Return"). Is it just me?

The sound on this is signifcantly better than the MCA, so recommended if only for a remastering of the original album program :-)

I remember watching the film a while back and thinking some of the unreleased score was exceptional.
I can't wait to bag this one with some other goodies.
Get ready Intrada smile

Yeah.. BNI was good, especially the couple that owned the restaurant they work-well together solely what the script is about, I don't think its as cool as Cocoon obviously the rocks what they did for that movie the score is the same park, jazzy waltz's - swing pieces were cool they had good rhythm & paces, moments remind me of Munchausen.

With all the (deserved) attention given to the recent DRACULA expanded release, I hope this quite brilliant deluxe edition hasn't been forgotten or ignored in its vampiric shadow.
This new edition is a gorgeous readjustment to the old infuriating hi/low sounding MCA release.
With loads of previously unreleased score that brings the more emotional and adventurous and comical music to the fore, this is a godsend for classic 80s Horner fans.
And the sound upgrade is astonishing.
This is how it was meant to be heard.
A great Horner expansion for me.
