We here in South Florida experienced a bit of wind and a bit of rain. I doubt we had a gust over 25mph. I even did my daily "aging man walk" in the rain, and the rain was a welcome respite from the high heat and humidity we normally have this time of year (meaning 9 months of the year).

Considering the fate that befell the Bahamas, we were exceedingly fortunate. The next time a Category 5 hurricane approaches this area, I intend to "get the hell out of Dodge" days in advance by taking the earliest flight out. There's no way I want to experience 185mph winds for several hours.

You're welcome to stay with me Weepy.
I have a floor mattress you can use.
wink

Much appreciated, Marshmallow. Just be sure to keep a case of cold Anchor Steam beer at the ready.

I'd also like to visit City Lights Books. Isn't Lawrence Ferlinghetti 100 years old this year? Bless his anarchistc heart!

Just remember, if you see a hose, a bucket with lotion, and a rope nearby the bed, it's a trick -- there's a hole under it.

If my memory's not failing the poor kid on the left went down not in a hurricane but the snows of killer Colorado. Before his time.

I'll match your Gomer/Andy with Felix/Oscar in that trope category. smile

Brandon de Wilde? Other than Shane and Hud, the only other thing I saw him in was a season one episode of Hawaii Five-0, playing a truly obnoxious hippie who masterminded the theft of some Hawaiian relics.

Acxording to the all-knowing Wikipedia, Brandon de Wilde left this world in the following manner:

"On July 6, 1972, deWilde was in Denver, Colorado, for a stage production of Butterflies Are Free. He was killed in a traffic accident in the Denver suburb of Lakewood. DeWilde was driving a camper van that went off the roadway, struck a guardrail and then a parked truck. DeWilde was alone in his vehicle and not wearing a seatbelt. His camper rolled onto its side and pinned him into the wreckage. He was taken to St. Anthony Hospital, where he died at 7:20 p.m. of multiple injuries that included a broken back, neck, and leg."

I'll match your Gomer/Andy with Felix/Oscar in that trope category. smile

Too bad they didn't trot out that trope for Route 66. Can you imagine that "Buzz, you saved my life!" car ride? big grin

These post-Dorian allergies are the pits! It's also 92F out today.

Oh you have me thinking of The Thin White Line when Buzz talked Todd off the Ben Franklin Bridge in Philly. Great episode. Classic. Memorable Sylvia Miles performance. She just died a few months ago.

My feelings are still hurt from when you and your fellow Boomer Steve "Long Paragraph of Death" Vertlieb totally ignored me in his wistful Route 66 thread, so I've still not seen an episode. wink

Looking forward to the esteemed Mr. Vertlieb's misty memoir, "When Pernell Roberts Left Bonanza"

There *were* posts in that thread asking questions about the show in the hopes you two Ozymandians would regale me with tales of JFK era TV, as it's one of my many obsessions.

Instead, you and "Buzz" Vertlieb "drove" right past me and left me standing there with my digit sticking out.

This is why Route 66 will die once its fandom has.

(All tongue in cheek, Howard, though I still have to wear turtlenecks all year 'round to cover the emotional scars you've wrought.)

So did this thing ever hit landfall? Damn terrible storm all the same. A two week meandering nightmare for many. Florida was soooo lucky.
