Just letting those who might be interested know, this will air again Veteran's Day Monday, November 11 (2019) at 6am PST. See top post for more details. I'm watching that airing tonight, off my DVR. Welled up with tears a couple of times. I've also been comparing the actual film score to the London Philharmonic Orchestra re-recording, and finding that both are great. The CD is a little better on the modern ear, for my money, both in sound quality (obviously) and in some little stylistic matters that may have come about because the CD performance had more preparation time. Still a gigantic achievement for Hugo Friedhofer. Also, may I say as a disinterested observer, it is not Arthur Grant's imagination. Whatever Jim Phelps' intentions might be, on the board he often comes across as a pest. His denials might reflect a true lack of awareness, or he might be gaslighting you, or both if he thinks no one should mind his treatment of them, but it's a real thing.
