MGM's 1952 musical Singin' in the Rain was not adapted from a theatrical production, though the film was later turned into one, being first presented on stage in 1983. Its abundant creativity, innovation and driving energy place this film at the top of all cinematic musicals ever produced. Singin' in the Rain has been reviewed as a past Blu-ray selection here

and will joyously dance its way onto TCM (updated) Saturday, August 10 at (early morning) 5am PST.

Those who'd like a sample of what's to come should enjoy this:

My favourite musical. Even as a very young kid I warmed very quickly to it. Instant liking. We're talking around 6 or so. Grabbed me straight away.

I don't particularly like musicals, but I absolutely love this film. I even have a copy of it. One of the greatest films ever made. If you haven't seen it, don't miss it.

A deleted scene that shouldn't have been removed.
Debbie's singing is fantastic.

Can anyone hear that song anymore and not think of "A Clockwork Orange?"

The script by Betty Comden and Adolph Green is superb. They scripted other great MGM musicals, including ON THE TOWN, THE BAND WAGON and IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER. The latter is less known today but is well worth watching. And André Previn wrote the songs!
