I seem to recall reading somewhere of a new recording of 'The Vikings'. Is this confirmed?

The talk on my part and a few others was that it was a new recording by Tadlow this past summer. They have neither confirmed or denied. Very mysterious.

I saw what appeared to be a facsimile CD cover for this on Facebook, accompanied by much oo-ing and ah-ing, but, since nothing was ever confirmed, I ended up assuming it was all just some skillful wishful thinking.

Perhaps someone attending the KING OF KINGS recording sessions can uncover more information.

If ever a score deserves a modern re-recording, it's The Vikings. It could be magnificent.

Well, here's me hoping,..!

It would be an instant buy for me, too. The original soundtrack recording sounds like it's played through cotton wool!

There is a very good 17:52 suite on WARRIORS OF THE SILVER SCREEN with The City of Prague Philharmonic conducted by Nic Raine.

This suite is conducted by Paul Bateman I think?

You are right; I was reading the orchestration credits. Thanks.

The Vikings coupled with The War Lord would be irresistible for me.

Agreed but not sure how that would happen since they’re both fairly long scores I think...

Why would anyone want The War Lord coupled with The Vikings? Two different composers. If there is any room or a second disc is planned for a possible Vikings release I would suggest more Nascimbene music. Possibly a new recording of the LP Overture to Barabbas...which of course was never part of the film. The War Lord would deserve its own release ...Since any new recording of Moross is always a good thing.

The Vikings coupled with The Long Ships would make more sense, but I'd take a good recording of the Vikings on its own, but will it happen? I still have the Varese CD of The War Lord (the old Decca album), what a fantastic score, maybe La-La could release it if the tapes still survive (there's a great looking Blu-ray that was released in Europe, maybe Kino will release it in the US).

In December 2017 James Fitzpatrick posted his very small list with scores he still wished to do and THE VIKINGS was number two after the James Bernard CD (which has already been recorded in April 2018). Mario Nascimbene is also mentioned in this first posting below:

"well I do have a James Bernard CD is final stages of pre recording prep ....and working on albums by Moross, Nascimbene and Jarre .... but let's see what the future holds smile ... apart from THRILLER 2 that is, which is already "in the can" smile"

"Just so people do not need to speculate...on my wish list are Dracula/the Curse of Frankenstein, The Vikings, Night of the Hunter, Jesus of Nazareth.....that's it...for now. I definitely will not be doing Black Patch or Face of the Fugitive...historically interesting Goldsmith scores but not particularly interesting musically....Spartacus....would cost twice as much as K of K and not a chance in he'll of even covering a small part of budget...and not really inclined to do any Herrmann as a sales disaster re Obsession.....but I can always be persuaded otherwise if enough people want to contribute their hard earned dosh! But for scores I love then I will fork out 50% of the total budget....but for others the "fans" will have to fun it 100%!!!"

Then in June this year there was another clue for THE VIKINGS:

"today producing a recording of one of my all time favourite scores in the fabulous new control room At Smecky Music Studios."
"complete recording of music from both a classic score and a classic film recorded as usual with Nic Raine and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus..."

The Moross should be the forthcoming re-release of the three old Silva albums on Tadlow.
