Love this set. Sounds great. That Van Helsing motif in particular is a real kicker, especially in Van Helsing's Solution. Happy to have this at last.

Okay – well just to say I've played mine now and ... yeah the whole thing is fab.
If any release can be said to be worth all the faff that's been discussed above, this one surely is.
The booklets are very nice too – clearly the red tint/wash is an intentional effect throughout and makes perfect sense to me. Well done to Mike M, and Jim T and everyone else involved in getting this out there.

Varèse says they shipped the package yet fedex says they never received it. There was a shipping label created but the item was never physically handed to Fedex.

Sounds like my scenario, Mutant; Drac's stuck in "Pre-shipment," the postal service awaiting the package after label creation (USPS First Class).

I'll give it another few days before I loose Van Helsing on Varese...

Has anybody in Europe already gotten this?

The Mailing site tells me that the package was delivered to Frankfurt, Germany 10 days ago and is in transit. Which is odd - since Frankfurt is near my hometown.

Frankfurt is were customs checking takes place. Most of my last few packages got stuck in Frankfurt for a few days, even up to three weeks. Sometimes the tracking reflects that the package is in customs, sometimes it doesn't. I don't really get why, but I always got the CDs, so it doesn't really matter.

Mine finally arrived in perfect condition along with On Deadly Ground.

Astonishing music. I didn’t ever own the old album, so this is all new to me and I love it. Top shelf Williams. Nice packaging too.

New to me as well - had not heard this music previously. Received mine some time ago and am astonished that this has never had a proper (or wide) release. Great music, I must have been hiding under a rock. I’ll echo all the thanks and praise. So much appreciate the efforts of Mike and others on this. Truly a service to my soul. smile

Whew, thank goodness! Seriously, very happy for you - I was gonna listen to something else right now, but I think I'm gonna have to try Dracula again today. smile

I think the release was as “wide” as any other score of the time, the CD just happened to go out of print and it became sought after.

Eureka! Just when I started to publicly worry the CD landed in my mailbox today!

What a wonderful presentation of this magnificent score, once thought to be lost.

A big THANK YOU to Varese for this fantastic release. Definitely a MUST HAVE, for Williams fans and anybody who enjoys big symphonic scores full of melody and class.

Yeah I finally got it. They were really good about sending me a replacement that arrived really fast. I feel bad about making such a fuss about it, but I was having a horrible day that day and was just set off.

Good customer service. Thanks Varese.

This is staggeringly good. Also arrived in perfect condition from Intrada - and no scratched discs :-)

I know you probably think I'm a jerk already, but I'm glad you got your copy and its clean. There's just too much negativity in this world now, to find even more things to worry over. It's a great score & this presentation is unbelievably good, glad you are enjoying it Spymaster.
That's all my point was, not to belittle anyone.
Cheers :-)

Intrada and La La Land always help out their international customers and put their disk costs at $1 and therefore don't attract a customs charge. Anything over $15 and its a trip to the sorting office and £12-£14 to pay to get your disk.

I've heard lots of other people complain about and to Varese, but they will never change their
Goody-Two shoes, we-play-by-the-rules ways.

Unfortunately the customs office here seemed to cotton on to that a few years back, and stopped virtually every order I did from LLL or Intrada and I had to pay customs duty (and train fare to get to the customs office which is an hour and a bit away, plus had to walk 1.5km outside the town*).

So between those things and the increased postage I basically gave up ordering from LLL, Intrada & the likes and basically took myself away from here for the last 3 ish years. I've either gone with a European reseller or gone without and missed a few things I'd have liked.

* It used to be that the postal service would bring the package to the door and they'd collect the duty but Deutsche Post and customs had a disagreement about money and now you need to go to the local customs office. I also don't drive.

I'm hoping that posting this will ensure that "Dracula" alights in my mailbox on Monday.

So far, I haven't even gotten a shipping notice from Varese. Which worries me.

After playing the first disc, the album version seems really short. The brevity, more than poor sound quality, is possibly why I didn't get into the original release. And the sound quality is so rich on the expanded disc, it's hard not to get into it. So it's a double win. smile
