TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23 HALLOWEEN 2018---a filmed alternate ending was rejected after a test screen audience gave it negative ratings. The alternate ending had Laurie Strode in a knife fight with Michael Myers to protect her granddaughter, Allyson. Michael stabs Laurie in the chest. Laurie's daughter, Karen ("Shanah" in the original script) comes out of the house with a crossbow and shoots Michael in the back. The three women then escape in the back of a pickup truck. Michael is lying down among Laurie's target practice mannequins as he breathes deeply and is probably dying. It is implied that Laurie's knife wound is fatal. THE TERMINATOR---co-writer/producer Gale Anne Hurd said she and James Cameron stuck with their original ending after a test audience said it preferred a happy ending in which the T-800 Terminator is destroyed in the truck explosion which prevents it from killing Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn). The test audience preferred an ending in which, “not even have The Terminator rise out as the endoskeleton, but just end with Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor hugging.” ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD--photo released of Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio in the Quentin Tarantino movie abou the Charles Manson Cult murders. NIGHT OF THE COMET---Orion Pictures remake underway of the 1984 cult-classic zombie movie that starred Catherine Mary Stewart. Roxanne Benjamin (SOUTHBOUND) is the writer. TRICK---Dermot Mulroney stars in this movie as a small town police detective who pursues a gruesome serial killer he had killed before. Patrick Lussier (DRIVE ANGRY) is the co-writer/director. GOTHAM---photo released of Shane West as Bane. THE WALKING DEAD---AMC announced that Episode 5, November 4 will be the last episode for Rick Grimes. MANIMATA---Johnny Depp stars in this movie about combat photographer W. Eugene Smith who exposed mercury poisoning in Manimata, Japan. Depp also will star with Mark Rylance and Robert Pattinson in WAITING FOR THE BARBARIANS which is based on the novel. JUDGE JERRY---daytime syndicated tv series underway with Jerry Springer as the judge in small-claims cases. TRIVIA---more Halloween monster movie trivia. In JURASSIC PARK, Jim Carrey was the lead candidate to play Dr. Ian Malcolm after an impressive audition, but then casting director Janet Hirshenon successfully recommended Jeff Goldblum for the part. Steven Spielberg earned $250 million in salary and royalties from JURASSIC PARK which is a record for a director for a single movie (however, James Cameron may have earned $350 million from AVATAR).

GOTHAM---photo released of Shane West as Bane. So basically everybody EXCEPT Batman is in this series? Did every villain predate the Bat in this continuity? I thought they had a relatively decent approach to this the first few seasons. The villains who seemed to be older than Batman, such as Penguin, Riddler, Mister Freeze, and Harvey Dent, were all adults, but still young, while Bruce was a young boy. Similarly, the villains who seemed roughly Bruce's age were much younger, such as Selina Kyle, Scarecrow, and Poison Ivy. They all showed hints of the villains they were to become, but none of them had fully embraced it yet. More recently though, they have thrown all that out, and pretty much everyone has become the fully formed villain we expect. Ivy's treatment is probably the most ridiculous. It kind of reminds me of Smallville, which was supposed to be the "no capes, no tights" take on the Superman mythos, but during the later seasons, Clark Kent was the only person not wearing a costume.

Ivy is weak but the other characters are generally well handled.
