Granted, I'm NOT into Marvel Superhero Films, but a film like 'Superman' from 1978 I can find very entertaining. I was 'interested' in 'Black Panther' mainly because I've been hearing these 'experts' bantering about the fact that the film will definately be a Best Picture Nominee next Spring. So, I got the Blu-ray and set myself down for a 2 hour + stretch. I simply did NOT understand the basic principles of...whatever the film was trying to speak of. Who are these people, where are they, who is this and who is that and, well, just some sort of (plausable), narrative, or anything that was resembling narrative. After a good 30 + minutes, I threw in the towel. These woman with spears who'd walk into a scene reminded me of those old films that wound up on 'Mystery Science Theater.' Is this film seriously going to be among the 'Best Picture' nominees, or is it laughably silly nonsense, or both?

I liked it a lot in the theater, but the second viewing didn't hold up. It's still better than Spider-Man: Homecoming. But so is syphilis.

I haven’t really seen it myself, but my mom and sister have tried watching it twice and both times, they were so bored by it that ended up turning it off halfway through (and they usually like the Marvel films).

I got through it but i struggled with it. The worst part was the false "african" voices that most of the cast were putting on heavy but then forgetting - all in one sentence!

It's a not great forgettable actioner with some ok moments. But then Get Out was a poor straight to DVD film and won best oscar.

Mediocre to slightly above average flick. I liked how the visual style reflected the original comic art.

I went into BP having only seen a few sporadic episodes of the MCU. Someone else payed for my ticket and I didn't really have anything going on that afternoon so I was pretty impartial. Despite not having a dog in the fight, I did enjoy the film. None of the mythology or backstory made a wit of sense to me but I was at least able to get mildly invested in the success of the main characters--not that failure of the heroes is ever a plot option with any of these superhero flicks. I also enjoyed Bilbo and Gollum in that one scene. Best picture though? I doubt the Academy is ready to take that plunge and if they did, that would pretty much destroy what little credibility they have left.

I enjoy the film quite a bit, and for me it holds up to multiple viewings. Worthy of best picture? Probably not, but the same could be said of plenty of other films that have been nominated, or even won.

But then Get Out was a poor straight to DVD film and won best oscar. GET OUT won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for its idea of mashing up the horror film with race relations. Yah, it was a really good idea, just not very well written.
