I bought the soundtrack LP for 'Holocaust' in the early 80s when I was still in high school, had just begun discovering the amazing world of film music, and was focusing mostly on sci-fi and World War II-related scores. I caught some of, but not all of the miniseries on TV, had no recollection of the score (or knowledge of Morton Gould), but took a chance on it anyway. ($9.99 was a lot of money back then.) Let's just say that RCA record got a lot of play, both on my turntable and the radio show I hosted in college and then took to the station I worked for in Michigan for half a dozen years. Such a rich, emotional, and full-blooded score---it just knocked my socks off. Then the turntable gave way to the CD player, and I haven't given it a spin in probably 25 years.

My CD arrived in the mail today and I'm already on my third listen. It is SO good to hear this again---it's better than I remember, in large part because the sound quality is so clean and I'm catching all kinds of subtleties that the album didn't reveal. The standout cues, for me, remain the main title, Kristellnacht, Inga/Karl theme, Babi Yar and Warsaw Ghetto/Finale. So many moments catch ya right in the throat. Damn, I wish Morton Gould had scored more film and TV projects. And being reminded that the great Charles Gerhardt and K.E. Wilkinson were involved makes it all the better.

Many thanks, Notefornote, for resurrecting one of the best scores of the 70s for film or TV. I didn't realize this was a "holy grail" until today, but I'm thrilled to be able to retroactively add it to my list and immediately check it off. Great work.

I was in high school in 1978, and our social studies teacher made the miniseries required viewing. It was a different time: there were only four networks, counting PBS. When something like ROOTS or HOLOCAUST came on, the whole country watched it, and everybody was watching it at the same time. The only comparable broadcast nowadays is the Super Bowl.

I wanted to add to the chorus of cheers. This soundtrack is utterly sublime. I got my copy in the post last week and I've been listening nonstop. I can't say enough good things about it. The music is ravishing along with the sound quality.

Notefornote crew, thank you for bringing this soundtrack out of the vaults. Across the board 10/10!
