Good idea, Ryan - I'm going to pull out my copy of Parable and reread it this weekend in honor of Stan. I'm most drawn to the early Mephisto issue, I will have to find that one as well.

I love #3 - but not that you mention it - I'm also going to pull #5 too.

Did Lee ever draw any comix?
Or conceptual art for the characters?
Or was the initial artists responsible for the visualized world.

I didn't know Stan not a comic-hero fan, still regarding SL career I've looked at his cv it does look impressive the ideas MR Lee brought to the table, I read SL was still an influence in the comic world till he passed which is a real pity.

R.I.P. Stan Lee, comic legend.

What a full life!
I grew up on comic books, and Stan was ever present in some capacity or another.
I had the pleasure of meeting him/getting his autograph in 1986.
I think the world was a better place with him in it.

Meanwhile, noted intellectual and obvious non-comic book reader Bill Maher chimes in on Stan the Man's legacy:

Silver Surfer's grammar is a bit lacking for someone imbued with the Power Cosmic!

"None are", indeed! (And strictly "shall" instead of "will" in the third person)

Nonetheless, RIP Stan Lee. Not a reader of American comics since the age of ten or eleven, but I've enjoyed his work and cameos across the years. Nice turn in The Big Bang Theory.

Couldn't let noted intellectual Bill Maher have the last word, so here is Marvel's reply (courtesy of dragon53's thread):

STAN LEE---Stan Lee's POP! Entertainment released an open letter response to Bill Maher's blog post which criticized US adults for taking comic books too seriously which results in the infantilization of modern pop culture.

“Mr. Maher: Comic books, like all literature, are storytelling devices. When written well by great creators such as Stan Lee, they make us feel, make us think and teach us lessons that hopefully make us better human beings. One lesson Stan taught so many of us was tolerance and respect, and thanks to that message, we are grateful that we can say you have a right to your opinion that comics are childish and unsophisticated. Many said the same about Dickens, Steinbeck, Melville and even Shakespeare.

But to say that Stan merely inspired people to ‘watch a movie’ is in our opinion frankly disgusting. Countless people can attest to how Stan inspired them to read, taught them that the world is not made up of absolutes, that heroes can have flaws and even villains can show humanity within their souls. He gave us the X-Men, Black Panther, Spider-Man and many other heroes and stories that offered hope to those who felt different and bullied while inspiring countless to be creative and dream of great things to come.”

Stan Lee, visionary. Bill Maher, not.
