With the great DIE HARD and AIRPORT announcements its easy to overlook that LL are also bringing out a CD of the Newton Brothers excellent score for the recent Netflix THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE.
I wasn't that fussed about their music for the director's previous OCULUS but they turned in a brilliant score on this one. Quiet and understated ( as all good ghost stories should be) this is really nice stuff with the tracks towards the end particular standing out with that melancholic feel that works so well in this type of genre.
Loved the series as well. After being a bit sceptical it was going to be more like the dreaded HAUNTING remake, this really surprised me with its effective creepiness and emotional impact of the characters. Nothing particularly 'grandstanding' in the music but it was an integral part of how great the whole thing was.
Anyway, I'm just really happy that a CD is coming as it had come out digitally and I thought that would be it, and didn't want this great wee score to be overlooked.
Thanks MV :-)

Absolutely agreed!

I still have the last two episodes left to watch - but already this series has surprised me big time.

What a magnificent show, much more than horror - it´s a highly intelligent and emotional look at how grief changes people and haunts them. The score works perfectly and is definitely one of the great ones this year.

I honestly don't remember the music, probably because of how effective it was! Having said that, I absolutely cannot endorse this show enough! It transcends "horror" into something much more meaningful.

I will be purchasing this one, loved the score, and the series one of the creepiest on Netflix. I didn't realize until I'd finished the show, that the actor playing the young father was none other than E.T.'s (Elliott) Henry Thomas.

We are so honored to be releasing this. The score and show go far beyond the normal horror story. Like This is Us meets Six Feet Under with a horror back drop.

That sounds awesome. The wife (like me) loves This Is Us and Bryan Fuller in general...but she's been reluctant to get into this, worried that it might be too scary. You have spurred me to try harder in convincing her to give it a go.

Thank you for doing this. Mike Flanagan really delivered a masterpiece. So did the Newton Brothers.

Mike Flanagan is one of the most talented and best horror directors of his generation, so I'm not surprised this series turned out well (even though it falters a bit in the last couple of episodes).

I can't remember much of the score, but I'm not generally 'hot' on horror scores, so it might not be up my alley on album.

'Depressing' is not the word I would use. But deliciously dark and scary, yes. And gorgeously shot.

Mother commits suicide
Daughter commits suicide
Brother is a drug addict
Litter of kittens dies...

Not depressing Thor?

Sure. But this is all about mise-en-scene; more atmosphere than a depressing drama.

It´s a horror show. But stick with it - the ending is uplifting.

True! hah!

And to me, it was first during episode 6 I realised just how great this show was!
