Not sure whether this ever travelled abroad, but for those of us in the UK and of a certain age, you will surely remember this magical series from their childhood.
Well.. the soundtrack by Roger Limb and BBC Radiophonic Workshop is now available to preorder from silvascreen.
WOWSERS!!! Never thought I'd see this released, and this series has been a favourite of mine ever since it first aired on BBC One back in 84. Thank you so much for posting this - ordered!
Wow! Amazing stuff, it truly is. My 2nd lifetime grail (after the now been and gone Craig Safan 1980’s Twilight Zone scores).
I never thought we’d see this one, although the show has plenty of online admirers. Despite being a 33 year old three hour kid’s TV show, it’s even being shown at cinemas throughout the UK this Saturday (I’m going to the London one).
Mine arrived this morning. Listening to it right now - marvellous, and very nostalgic indeed! Love the mixture of early 80s synths and orchestra. Very of its time.
As an aside, episode 4 aired 34 years ago today at 4:55pm. I feel ollldddddd!
Was never really attracted to this series, despite Patrick Troughton being a favourite actor along with Robert Stephens. I think it was the fact they used cartoon animation as part of the sfx. It's ok to me for a musical like Mary Poppins, but not for a dramatic setting.
Nice music though, from Roger Limb who was at the time my least favourite of the Radiophonic Workshop composers. He did a great job on Peter Davison's Doctor Who swansong, mind, The Caves of Androzani. But even there, I find his work a more taxing listen than the more melodic Paddy Kingsland and Peter Howell. The latter I always thought got just right the melody-meets-stranger-sounds aspect.
