I want to share these links all in one place, because the programs themselves are pretty great, and I've been playing them as I look forward to hearing these scores get the Matessino treatment. Two podcasts, both recent starts, both well worth hearing, have done great, extremely listenable, coverage of some of these scores.

The Soundtrack Show boasts the genial, and oft-times shockingly insightful, David W. Collins, who points out themes, motifs, developments and weavings in scores he loves, all well illustrated with clips or, when necessary to isolate, on his piano. He covered the first film in three episodes:

https://www.soundtrackpodcast.com/podcasts/harry-potter-and-the-philosophers-stone-the-music-part-ii.htm

https://www.soundtrackpodcast.com/podcasts/harry-potter-and-the-philosophers-stone-the-music-part-iii.htm

Next try The Art of the Score, in which four genuinely amiable, and contagiously music-affectionate, music professionals cover scores they love. Where Collins somewhat more follows the score as a whole, these men will often trace a theme at a time, and show how it develops as the music progresses, making their coverage of some of the same compositions great follow-ups to the above. The overlap rarely feels at all repetitive.

They covered the first film last year, in one episode:

Then they devoted two episodes to the third film, the second of which I'm still listening to.

http://www.artofthescore.com.au/podcast/2018/11/20/episode-23-harry-potter-and-the-prisoner-of-azkaban-part-1

http://www.artofthescore.com.au/podcast/2018/12/3/episode-24-harry-potter-and-the-prisoner-of-azkaban-part-2

Neither of these have covered Chamber of Secrets, which is understandable given the Art of the Score guys' explanation of how much of it repeats Potter #1. This, of course, makes me the most interested in Mike Matessino's notes on that particular score.

Which brings me back to David W. Collins. He just interviewed Mike, pointing out to the man himself what he has seid many times on his show, that Mike's liner notes are gold standard. He defends that well, too. This interview is a great intro to what Mike's been doing for 20+ years now, and what goes into it:

Producing Soundtrack Albums: an Interview with Mike Matessino (two parts)

https://www.soundtrackpodcast.com/podcasts/producing-soundtrack-albums-an-interview-with-mike-matessino-part-ii.htm

And then what I haven't heard yet (as I just found these mere minutes ago!), two parts of a long interview Matessino did with Tim Burden on the new Harry Potter set as a whole:

Mike has also done some great interviews with Tim on specific releases, which you should also catch. On Sound Cloud, the offerings are a bit confusing, because they've broken out (and edited down) sections on specific CDs, but these, I'm pretty sure, are the full interviews, from which those smaller ones were taken (the conversations are much better in their natural flow):

(that one covers E.T. and Close Encounters pretty well)

I've found all of these (save the two new to me) fascinating listens. I hope you do too.

I happen to be in the middle of this one right now and it's FANTASTIC. Very insightful, and very easy on the ears in terms of production and the genial nature and rapport between the hosts.

Genial is right, and genuine, said combo so rarely at such equally high levels. I originally picked and chose episodes based on overlapping taste (which are a lot), but going through these this past week has re-convinced me to start at the top and listen to every episode, and all that come, even if their subject holds no particular claim on my heart.
