TCM's yearly tribute to those we lost in entertainment 2018.

I think thats their worse one ever. Sombre annoying crap music and far too much pointless filler and not enough lingering on the stars- its all too brief. No sooner do you just about register who someone is, its gone.

I put a stopwatch to it. Of the 4:46 video, 3:16 was devoted to the deceased and 1:30 went to the filler. Sixty-five people were mentioned, giving each one an average of 3 seconds of screen time.

So 1 min 30 wasted that cudve been used for 2 secs longer on each star. Thanks Bob thats what i like, stats to back up an observation.

I agree, Bill. Hated the song and really didn't much care for the filler.

TCM, as good as they are, really do not help the cause of classic movies much in some ways with the intentionally heavy handed quaint nostalgia stuff, the shots of diners and pay phones etc. They keep playing to the same very old audience, and this stuff just puts off anyone that is not already in the club. They have been doing this same schlocky branding garbage since Ted Turner started it 1994. It is like an old folks home.

I recognized 17 of the actors and 6 of the "staff" types - directors, producers, writers, etc., only a few of which I even knew had passed away this year.
Guess I'm not in the club?

Don't they have those "filler" shots so other deaths can be edited in later?

I would have liked more examples of appropriate film clips played behind the photos of the deceased who weren't actors to help those who are not cinema aficionados identify the name. (e.g. Around the World in 80 Days for Michael Anderson.)

Agreed.
But given its mid december, they must be expecting a hell of a lot of stars to snuff it before jan!
1 min 30 sec worth !
At 3 secs each thats another 30 film stars to kick the bucket in the next 12 days!!
I hope not.

Chuck McCann, actor
Allyn Ann McClerie, actress
Roger Perry, actor
Mary Carlisle, actress
Tim O’Connor, actor
Ann Gillis, actress
Jean Porter, actress
Zienia Merton, actress

John Morris, composer
Johann Johannsson, composer
Stelvio Cipriani, composer

Ty Hardin, actor
Ken Berry, actor
Charlotte Rae, actress
Deanna Lund, actress
Robert Mandan, actor
Joseph Campanella, actor
Marty Allen, comedian/actor

The first group I suppose, did not have a sufficient body of work to be mentioned. The composers apparently are less important than even editors or title/fashion designers when it comes to film-making. And the last group were primarily TV stars, and not within TCM's purview.

Agree with sentiments expressed. Awful. Trivializes the whole thing. Go back & do it right at the end of this year as in previous years.
