I watched the film again a few months ago (it's not a bad flick either), and there was a brief synth cue over the opening Columbia logo, and variations on this cue pop-up here and there (though it could be the same cue, re-used). I didn't notice anything not already on the existing album however.

I agree it is a terrific score, and it's clear Jarre was trying to do an homage to the music of "golden age" Hollywood. There's a distinctly Rozsa-esque quality to the main theme (both melodically and in the orchestration).

I loved this score (without eve having seen the movie) and you are very right about the rapturous Rozsa-esque quality to the music. (Unfortunately, I had to let go of this rare OOP cd during some bad financial crunch 2 years back. I would grab onto it if it were re-issued again. )

If you can, throw that thing onto a disc, make a few bucks - promise I'll buy another just because I love it so much!

A hearty second for this!

A civil discussion. ...at FSM? Am I in an alternate universe??? ;-)
While we're at it, I hear director Franc Roddam didn't like the score, and mentions this on the commentary track. I'm afraid to listen (Jarre is one of my favorites), so has anyone else tried this track?
Lucky for us, he was unable or not that worried about in after all to replace Jarre.

Roger/James,

Any possibility of releasing this score, it has been OOP for sometime.

I was unable to get hold of a copy of the CD last time it was released and is too expensive on the secondary market.

I was at the original recording session for the revised end credits.....done a while after the main sessions...certainly no sign of the director there! Rather it seemed that the film company wanted Maurice to "notch up" the romance for the finale as they appeared to realise the film might not be what they hoped for. Orchestrators Christopher Palmer and Nic Raine were both eager to oblige as both had worked for Rozsa. So, yes this music has that sort of feel.....

Even if James's copy of the Bride has very little extra music compared to the Varese issue, surely it would yield far superior sonics, eh Roger? This was also one of those record fast sell outs from Varese back in the day (which almost never happens any more, Jagged Edge aside). I suspect an Intrada remastered reissue (or maybe a slight expansion like Capricorn One or Secret of NIMH) would move 1000 copies or so, at least. Sweeping romantic orchestral Jarre wasn't all too plentiful in the 80s...

Well if Varese, Intrada, Quartet want to licence the OST from the film company, I can get the tapes baked in a low, slow over for 7 days (you have to do this with Ampex tapes of that period), then I can save to hard drive and then spend a few days in the studio re mixing, editing and mastering. So, if they have the dosh to pay me for this ......?

Well there is an offer which I hope one of the labels will find hard to refuse! James, please keep us updated with this.

I believe Varese might still have the rights? So if someone wants to nudge Robert ...?

In case anyone reading this thread isn't aware, the Varese release of The Bride is available on itunes. Not seen it on any other digital platform. Which at least can satisfy those who have sold our soul to the (digital) company store until the right one comes along.

I wouldn't expect Varese to still control this title (that started being commonplace in the 90s, but not the 80s). However if Varese currently has it on iTunes this must be one of the exceptions like Cocoon: The Return, The Fly, or their LP re-recordings of Elfman, Horner, and Rozsa.

I haven't played this score in years.
I only have the Varese LP, never picked up the CD release and then it just got too expensive to bother with.
I remember liking it well enough, but the theme that really stands out for me is the one for the Rinaldo character. I think it's played twice on the LP, jauntily for his intro and sadly for his death.
Lovely stuff. Catchy and trademark Jarre.
