This DVD is a treasure for fans of this masterpiece! The first sounds unbelievably similar to the theme to JFK, and the second sounds just as similar to TWISTER. The melodies, instrumentations, and even tempo changes are spot-on matches in some places. My first guess would have been that these were rejected temp-track versions of these scores, but DANCES came out before JFK and TWISTER. Who can satisfy my curiousity? I guess it can be music by John Beal, and yes, it sounds a lot like JFK & Twister. Which were heavily temp tracked with 4th of July & "Follow me" from Always. By the way, the trailer music, by Steve Graziano, is beautiful. The dvd is great, but where is the isolated score? And where is the complete score that Sony planned to release?

People are actually buying this instead of the Image DTS version? How long does it take to go out of print now? Has it been that long? Anyway, the dts disc was one of the few mastered at the complete 1509 kilobit per sec bit rate, just really fine audio which served that score beautifully. So in the ideal matrix, good sound is out and lowly 444 kbps dolby digital is the fulfilling apex of social engineering? Damn, we used to think CDs were compromised. We should have been happy our laserdiscs had the same quality as CDs. No, we want thin sounding compressed mp3 audio with subwoofers!

I love this film. It is one of the greatest films ever made. I own the extended cut on DVD – HOWEVER…. I live in Australia, (region B) – and it has not been released down here on blu ray. I ordered the ultimate copy of this film, in High Definition. – It appears to be the greatest “Dances With Wolves” package ever released! Here are a couple of links: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/585/danceswithwolves.html and… http://www.amazon.com/Dances-Wolves-Two-Disc-Anniversary-Blu-ray/dp/B004AOECTC/ref=sr_1_3?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1384072843&sr=1-3&keywords=dances+with+wolves Unfortunately, when I put it my Blu Ray player – it does NOT work – The message that comes up is the following: This disc has been coded for region A only and will not play in your region B Blu Ray player. I had a look on “the net” – and tried to get some info – as to WHY IT WON’T WORK? It seems they did something which is called “region A locked”. To me it seems this release is so fantastic, that they will not let other counties experience it. I believe there is a region B Blu Ray release available to buy, but it DOES NOT FEATURE the extended cut of the film…. and it’s not in high definition, and no Special Features! It boasts to be region "free" - and I believe (when you check out the back cover) - it is the normal 181 minute version - why release it at all then? http://www.amazon.com/Dances-Wolves-Blu-ray-Region-Free/dp/B002CYIR1Q/ref=sr_1_7?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1384072977&sr=1-7&keywords=dances+with+wolves Does anyone know a “way to get around this” – so that there is a possibility that I might be able to watch my “Region A Locked” blu ray, as this is the way movies are meant to be released, but then – why lock it? Do I need to buy an imported “American” Blu Ray player. I’ve seen at least 10 Blu Ray films imported from USA, I own 2 Blu Ray players, and I believed they were BOTH multi region, until I played this title, but then – why does this important film “actually” advertise as one of its Technical Specs “REGION A LOCKED” (?) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The US release, released by 20th Century Fox, is region locked because Fox only has the rights to release the disc in the US/Canada. You should have checked the region code before buying it. The only way to get around this is to buy a region free Blu-ray player or buy the German release which has the director's cut and all the extras. Warner Bros. has released the theatrical cut on a region free Blu-ray in various region B countries, but this release has no extras.

I love my 20th anniversary Blu-ray of "Dances With Wolves" and have never missed not having an isolated score. And I also love my SACD of the John Barry soundtrack, which remains a favorite of mine (though it's annoying that I have to keep my OLD Blu-ray player just to be able to play SACDs anymore!).
