Peculiarly, this indie film from 2001 was never shown theatrically in Norway, so this was a rare opportunity to catch a modern semi-classic.

Richard Kelly's bewildering fantasy is difficult to retell. Essentially, it's about a teenage boy who experiences visions of a horrific rabbit, telling him that the world is about to end in three weeks. All at once, it's - to quote a review - a film that "proceeds with the feel of a teen flick, the style of a horror, and a plot suited for a fantasy".

The film is layered with complex causality, cross-cutting, time manipulation and visual tricks. Certainly enough to justify both repeated viewings and a cult status.

I loved the pace and atmosphere of the movie - at times hypnotic and reflective, at other times crudely realistic and harsh.

It's been two weeks since I saw it, and being this complex, I don't really remember any specific moments that I could analyze. But certainly, this is a master thesis candidate.

------------

It's an eclectic soundtrack that combines Michael Andrew's original score with a number of appropriate period songs (the film takes place in the 80's), such as "Notorious" by Duran Duran. Don't remember much of the former, I'm afraid.

Thor, I agree that it's quite a good movie. Next time you, or any other see it, notice the operatic music that plays in the cinema scene. It's one of the most incredible pieces I have ever heard, and was the reason I got interested in the score in the first place. Of course it turned out that it weren't on the soundtrack.frown It's called "Ava Maria" and was composed by Giulio Caccino and this newer arrangement is done by Paul Pritchard. I have it as mp3 if anyone's interested.

Great film, great music.

"Anyone who loves this film, please enlighten us with your theories about the meaning of the film's ending without making the rest of us laugh."

Ummm...Gee David, not really an invitation for getting someone who liked the film to discuss it with you. Somehow I get the feeling that your mind is made up about this one...

Maybe I should just go and watch the movie again sometime soon before spouting nasty, negative crap like that. I'll probably discover that I view it in an entirely different light. And some of the music WAS pretty damn good which is what I should have been focusing on.

Hmmm ... it hasn't come through yet. How large is the file? Perhaps that caused a problem. Try sending me just a normal e-mail with no attachments. And do you have AIM? If so, let me know your e-mail and I'll send you my handle.

The size of the file is only 2.874 KB.

Have sent a normal e-mail without attachment now.

Haven't got AIM sorry. I have an FTP client, so if you have a server I can upload. You can also find me on the p2p program called Soulseek(www.slsk.org), in the room called MovieMusic.

Nope, your e-mails aren't getting through for some reason. Funny ... never had this happen before. Double-check and make sure you're sending them to the right address. You might also try: takisjoh@pilot.msu.edu

I'll check out SoulSeek. If it's not full of spyware/adware, I might try it.

Well, I got Soulseek and went to the MovieMusic room, but it says you're "away" ... guess I'll try back later.

UPDATE: OK, found ya! Thanks.

Well I just recently revisted the film and had more time to hear the music. Pretty good and damn moody too.

I just bought the score online from Amazon and am going to try to put together a special-edition (for personal use)...being the dorky completist that I am.

I'm trying to find these...

"The Killing Moon" - Echo & The Bunnymen

"Lucid Memory" - Sam and Ged Bauer

"Head over Heels" - Tears For Fears

"Lucid Assembly" – Ged and Mike Bauer

"Ave Maria" – Giulio Caccino and Paul Pritchard

"For Whom the Bell Tolls" – Steve Baker and Carmen Daye

"Show Me" – Quito Colayco and Tony Hertz

"Notorious" - Duran Duran

"Proud To Be Loud" - The Dead Green Mummies

"Love Will Tear Us Apart" - Joy Division

"Under the Milky Way" - The Church

"Mad World" - Gary Jules and Michael Andrews

I'm basically trying to get these off of Kazaa.

What about that Ave Maria? Can someone send that to me?

meegle, any requests that would involve copyright violations to fulfil are forbidden in these forums. Please don't ask others here to help you pirate stuff; it'll just wind up in getting threads closed.

Sheriff, if you're reading this, I hope you don't shut down the whole thread because of this one post. Thor's "Cinema Club" threads are noteworthy contributions to the boards, and it'd be a shame to lose one just because of a single post.

meegle, you can find all of those and dialogue from the movie at Soulseek. You can find the program here: www.slsk.org

Good luck,

Joe Esrey, please don't tell me what to do. If the Sheriff has a problem with my posts I'm sure he'll let me know. I don't want any posts shut down because of me. I thought it harmless to ask about these tracks...honestly. I make cd compilations for myself. I don't trade or sell them. THEY ARE MINE and MINE ALONE.

Esrey gets the "Ford" award for needless paranoia.

You know, I looked for a code of conduct for the board and I couldn't find it; just to see if I'd broken a rule.

I didn't mention a bootleg in my post.

I didn't post the sale of one.

As a matter of fact I don't even think I am making one. Doesn't a bootleg become a bootleg when it's sold or traded? I am doing neither.

Besides, in doing a search of posts ABOUT bootlegs I found a bunch. How many of these were shut down? For instance:

Joe Esrey, please don't tell me what to do. If the Sheriff has a problem with my posts I'm sure he'll let me know. I don't want any posts shut down because of me. I thought it harmless to ask about these tracks...honestly. I make cd compilations for myself. I don't trade or sell them. THEY ARE MINE and MINE ALONE.

There's no need to be rude. If you look back and read my post you'll note I used the word "please." I furthermore spent more words imploring the Sheriff not to shut down the thread than I did asking you not to do things that would get the thread shut down. I'm about as far removed from Ford as one can get, and I'm sure he'd be as quick to make that distinction as I.

You did ask others to send you copies of material, and it is against the rules here. Please note I didn't make any moral judgement of you; frankly, I'd like for requests like the one you made to be Ok here. However, they aren't, and while I might not like all the rules, it's not my site, so I don't make them. Moreover, Lukas has indicated that the open trading of illegal material that once fairly frequently here has made it difficult for him to release material FSM wanted to do; if that's the case, it's a serious problem indeed.

You know, I looked for a code of conduct for the board and I couldn't find it; just to see if I'd broken a rule.

I didn't mention a bootleg in my post.

Well, what do you know? Neither did I; the word doesn't appear in my post at all. I mentioned copyright violation, a broader offense that includes but is not restricted to bootlegs. Moreover, if you look at my own history of posting on the subject, you might note my own views on what should be acceptable are very critical of current accepted practice with regards to copyright and IP. Frankly, I'd like to see lots more stuff freely exchangeable, in complete opposition to Ford Thaxton. I just recognize there are rules for these forums, whether I like it or not, and I'm letting you know something of which you're apparently unaware. I personally don't much care whether you get illegal copies of music or not; my request of you was motivated principally by a desire to preserve a thread your request endangered, not by a desire to prevent even the most minor of copyright infractions.

I didn't post the sale of one.

As a matter of fact I don't even think I am making one. Doesn't a bootleg become a bootleg when it's sold or traded? I am doing neither.

Any request for material in violation of copyright runs afoul of the policy here, whether it's bootleg or not - threads have been closed over requests for someone to email someone else an MP3 or something like that.

Oh I said "please" too Joe...as in "please don't tell me what to do".

I furthermore spent more words imploring the Sheriff not to shut down the thread than I did asking you not to do things that would get the thread shut down.

Where have you been Esrey? THE VERY FIRST RESPONSE TO THIS POST SETS THE PRECEDENT FOR ME!
The sharing of an mp3!!! You didn't say anything then! If you're gonna take names while the teacher is out...BE FAIR!!!

I'm about as far removed from Ford as one can get, and I'm sure he'd be as quick to make that distinction as I.

Next. razz

You did ask others to send you copies of material, and it is against the rules here.

Well I learn by example as the only one I asked to be sent to me was one that had been mentioned before. It seems to me that everyone can come on here and mention anything they want and I come along and get pounced on by some nobody.

No you didn't mention the word "bootleg" Esrey but you did say:

Please don't ask others here to help you pirate stuff.

If "pirate" doesn't allude to bootleg, I don't know what does.

For the cheap seats: I AM NOT LOOKING TO MAKE SELL AND TRADE BOOTLEGS!

I WAS LOOKING TO CONTINUE AN ALREADY ESTABLISHED DISCUSSION. Plain and simple.

"No need to be rude."

Gimmie a break.

I apologize Sheriff for any infraction.

Oh I said "please" too Joe...as in "please don't tell me what to do".

Right, but my use of the word please in the original post made it something I asked of you, not told you. I wasn't telling you what to do.

Where have you been Esrey? THE VERY FIRST RESPONSE TO THIS POST SETS THE PRECEDENT FOR ME!
The sharing of an mp3!!! You didn't say anything then! If you're gonna take names while the teacher is out...BE FAIR!!!

Those were old posts, and I don't even remember if I read them or not when they first appeared; at any rate, they also weren't looking for all the stuff you were looking for. I gather you may have been asking others here for just the one MP3, but mentioning that entire list of additional titles you were going to get off Kazaa makes your post stand out more.

Well I learn by example as the only one I asked to be sent to me was one that had been mentioned before. It seems to me that everyone can come on here and mention anything they want and I come along and get pounced on by some nobody.

I didn't pounce on you. I made a request of you, and I did it trying to keep you out of trouble, along with trying to keep the thread alive. I also didn't insult you; thanks so much for insulting me. If anything, you're pouncing on me.

Everyone can't come on here and mention anything they want. If you look around, you'll find lots of threads that have been shut down for requests like the one you made. If there are other threads that haven't been closed, it's apparently because Joe and Bill haven't seen them all.

No you didn't mention the word "bootleg" Esrey but you did say:

Please don't ask others here to help you pirate stuff.

If "pirate" doesn't allude to bootleg, I don't know what does.

I was using it to refer to any unauthorized copies of copyrighted material, whether they're sold or not. I personally think it's something of a misuse of the word myself, but it's long been an accepted use of the term by copyright holders. I never said you were buying or selling any copies, and I think it's patently obvious from my post. It also doesn't matter, since the two different behaviors you're distinguishing between are both off-limits. Like I said, I personally don't care; if it were up to me, there wouldn't be the board restraints. All I did was point out you were doing something that could get the thread locked and its posts replaced.

"No need to be rude."

Gimmie a break.

"Gimmie a break?" Yeah, like my post hurt you sooo much. Yeesh. If you didn't care for what I said you could have simply ignored it, or even tried to counter what I said a little more reasonably, rather than tossing out insults. Why don't you give me a break? All I did was point out your request had potential for getting the thread shut down. I'm not the one who actually shuts threads down; I don't even want requests like yours to be against the rules.
