Yeah, that cool version sounds like a John Williams concert arrangement, let's say if he were to conduct it at the Hollywood Bowl. Very nice big orchestra sound and arrangement.
On the Aleph CD, I could do without the sound effects on various tracks, which IMO are totally un-necessary. I like the disco-fied orchestral 'Magic Carousel' track (track 7), although it's a little cheesy I suppose.
The other track which I like is the short but punchy 'Tension Rock'. That could almost have been another Schifrin theme for 'Starsky and Hutch'
Replaying this now, thanks to the recent Lalo Top 10 thread. I had the old LP first, which pretty much played like a collection of catchy fairground and carnival tunes. The expanded Aleph CD, which adds more of the tension and suspense tracks, really fills out the listening experience, in a much more satisfying film score-like way. I remember enjoying the film, at the cinema in the late 70's, when I was a young'un. The tension was quite unbearable at times. I haven't watched it since, as far as I can recall. Top notch Schifrin scoring for me.
