To this day, I'm still puzzled as to why Broughton wasn't placed back onto the composer "A" list for this amazing score. Instead, it's back to cheesy telefilms. frown Okay, Broughton is scoring Eloise At The Plaza, while John Debney is scoring Passion Of The Christ. Something's wrong with this picture... roll eyes

Though his score is wonderful (as are many of his scores prior to LOS) the movie itself was a financial and critical turkey. It just wasn't the big ticket to prime-time for Broughton it might have been.

Too bad that a composer of such range and full-blooded writing talents continues to get overlooked in favor of higher profile but musically inferior composers when it comes to the bigger, prestige movies.

This is a great score and I too wish Broughton would get more A-list assignments.

I also rate this score very high... among Bruce Broughton's best efforts. Intrada has been very good about releasing BB's music, with at least one cd every year... so what will it be in 2004, Roger?

And here's where I will repeat my plea for Bruce Broughton's Disney park music to be released -- it is some of the best work he has done!

Cheers

Let me add my cry to the crowd--SOMEBODY EMPLOY THIS GUY!

That every other action film gets a score by Graeme Revel, or Trevor Jones, or what ever synth-hack from Media Ventures while Bruce Broughton languishes in TV movies is just a crying shame.

The Ignorant Producers/Directors Hall of Shame is full of under-used and way over-qualified composers like Broughton, Shire, Goldenberg, Poledouris, and, yes, even Joel McNeely. (I'm sure that last inclusion will result in some choice remarks, but, what the Hell!)

I'm also a fan of this remarkable Bruce Broughton score, especially that exciting "Spiders" cue. And "Through the Planet." And "Robot Attack." And...

It is a true shame that it boils down to a matter of "box office" results. Business and movie-making don't mix.

i like all of bruce music and concerning your "a" list wishes :
perhaps it is not was bruce want to do
in fact some tv pictures are of better quality than the mainstream hollywood movies

i prefer scores like " O Pioneers" more than any tomb raider sequel smile
but it was nice to hear what bruce can do with the "right" movie smile
in fact i wished long before the howard shore assignment, that bruce did lotr

Wit the recent hullabaloo on the latest LLL Box set. What about that movie score? I never got this album. Somehow this got 'lost' in my pursuits for other works of Brougton. I vaguely remember that movie. Is this score still available from Intrada or OOP?

I've never given this score a chance either. Hated the movie so much I've blocked out the whole thing including the music.

Wonderful score. One of my nominees for Best Score for Worst Movie. Such a terrific main theme, and the action writing in "Through The Planet" and the closing "Lost In Space" cue is exhilarating. One of my all-time favorites.

It doesn't matter what this score was written for. If ever an album held its own as a rigorous, exceptionally well-written score for a sci-fi action/adventure film, it's this one. It is one of the most astonishing three-week wonders in the history of scoring. If you love Bruce Broughton's other big and busy scores, or any big sci-fi blockbuster scores, this is one to have.
