Around here, we'd just be happy to know the difference between a Goulet and a Guillaume.

Crazy couple of days with lots of work, but now I'm ready to chill. Spectacular summer weather in Oslo (temps ALMOST at 20 C at high noon), and I'm soon off to a birthday for a film composer friend of mine. Have bought lots of beers for consumption -- including specialty Belgian blondes and some IPAs (to outlandish prices at our wine monopoly) and some regular Pilsners.

Knob Creek bourbon. It's very expensive in the UK, so when I saw it on offer (just £5 off, but better than nothing) I bought a bottle. I haven't opened it yet, but I'm sure it'll be very nice...& it's called Knob Creek smile

I'm going to amend my post on the Lionel Newman napkin thread now.

Currently enjoying some "Goose Island" IPA which pales--he he--in comparison to the delightful draught beer I had on vacation in (on?) Rhode Island, Dogfish Head's "Romantic Chemistry", which isn't sold in my culturally-deprived part of the country.

Been on a bit of a drinking binge this last week. Wednesday, Thursday and yesterday. Last night, I had a whole bottle of white wine, 2 Belgian strong Blondes and a few regular Pilsners. Tonight, I'm on again. Had a half bottle of red wine, and on to the beers now -- some pilsners, Hansa IPA, Hansa Belgian Weissbier and other stuff. Cripes!

Obviously you're not one to mix grain with grappa.

Not usually, but I have done so last night and tonight. It's gone surprisingly well. I tend to tolerate white wine/beer far better than red wine/beer. I even had wine first and beer after, which is the "wrong" sequence (fortunately, just an urban legend). I expected my chronic hernia in my esophagus to act up, but so far so good.

Dogfish Head is an excellent brewery. I don't think I have had Romantic Chemistry before, but I have had several other of their brews. I am surprised that Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA isn't available where you are, as I have seen it available here on the West Coast. Goose Island is certainly drinkable, but Dogfish Head is much better.

Dogfish Head is available, just not the "Romantic Chemistry." Neither in bottles (Though I think I've seen it in 12-pack cans?) nor draught, the latter of which is what I drank in Rhode Island. I was told it was a seasonal offering. The Goose Island stuff works well in a pinch, and I would pick some up again if necessary.

I also drank some of the excellent Narragansett Lager on draught (or draft). wink

Wow, months since this thread most fine was bumped.

I am a Guinness beer fan. However, I also do not drink multiple beers very often--two is my limit. There are times when I will make my second Guinness (always a draught) a half pint served in my local's "house" glass. This second Guinness never tastes as good as the first pint served in the traditional Guinness glass.

Recently, I had a second Guinness, but it was a full pint, and it was mahvelous dahlings. This begs the question for Guinness beer lovers only: does the Guinness glass make a difference in the taste? It sure seems to when I'm doing the drinking.

It does indeed make a difference to the taste. It has to do with the bigger glass allowing extra olfatory (sp?) perception. You must smell the beer as well as tasting it. This is true of wine glasses, champagne glasses etc. It's not all snobbism, posturing and poofery - can you imagine drinking good wine out of a coffee mug?

However, most importantly, the "proper" Guinness glass gives you a "proper" white Guinness moustache - something which the anti-facial hair lobby seems to resent and even openly ridicule.
