I just read one of the reviews posted for this score. I hope all those who consider themselves film music fans go out and buy this. For one thing, it truely is one of the best scores of 2000. It is also a delisciously lengthy album with great themes, powerful orchestration, and hefty dense tones with lots of varying moods. Lots of energy with a great performance by a big orchestra. Excellent stuff all over. And I sure hope that the album sells more so that the team at Varese feels financially justified for putting out quality albums like this. I wouldn't want to see them releasing stupid albums like The Watcher and those silly horror films with generic crap in place of quality albums like On the Beach. I haven't seen the movie, but got the score because I liked certain tracks on the Moby Dick album and got curious abour Gordon. I see him as A-list material and hope to see him get more big budget films to score. Boys and girls, check it out and come back to this site and let us know what you think.

I hope to have this score soon. Either I get it for my birthday, or I'll go out and try to find it myself. A couple of weeks ago I got Gordon's Moby Dick, and it's nothing less than a true masterpiece.

NP: Moby Dick (Christopher Gordon)

Hey, you guys got me really interested in this CD! Can I buy it from any music store, or do I have to order it?

Both are Varese Sarabande releases, so I guess they should be available in normal stores.

NP: Superman Expanded (John Williams)

I highly agree with you, On the Beach is great! I also have Moby Dick and it is good like alot of tracks, but overall it doesn't come as close as the brilliance of On the Beach. I was suprised that I found some classical music fans that really seem to think nothing of On the Beach! :O

Agreed.

ON THE BEACH is very good, and I was flabbergasted to find it on a local retailer shelf. And, as others have said before, the jacket art is truly something to behold.. absolutely silly.

But I digress. Music = good. 'Nuff said.

Both On the Beach and Moby Dick by Christopher Gordon are fantastic.

I have seen copies of On the Beach in stores (about 6 months after I purchased my copy via the net.)

NP: Along Came a Spider (first listen http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/biggrin.gif">)

Well for those who don't have it, I suggest you hurry up. Because I have a feeling that this will be one of those CDs that just suddenly gets deleted from the cataloges unexpectedly.
Did you guys know the Trevor Jones score to Merlin, another huge and magnificent score composed for a TV movie in 1998 is already OOP? I saw it sell on eBay for $40!
The score was originally released by Varese. 1998-2000 is a pretty short life time. I have no doughts that On the Beach will be the same way. So get it while you can!

Merlin out of print? It seems to be available directly from VS.

I was surveyed by phone about Merlin and when they mentioned Martin Short's character, I laughed out loud at such a preposterous notion. Then I saw the show and I wasn't laughing any more.

Hmm well maybe Varese, but you can no longer buy it from anywhere else.
Did they ask you about the score in the servey?

No questions about the score. I'm assuming that the script was still being developed at that point.

They asked about another miniseries at the same time and I'll be jiggered if I can remember what it was.

The Projectionist,

As far as I know they weren't used CDs. There as no sign saying that, only one saying "Bargain CD and cassettes". It was a mixture of mostly pop CDs from the last few years, plus some classical and a few soundtracks.

Some fine FSM members directed me towards this score. Found samples on iTunes. Sounds marvelous! Kind of a cross between Godzilla (54) and LOTR's. Deep, soulful music. I'll be picking it up!

One of my favorite scores, ever, period. This album just devastates me everytime, I
can't play it too often! Beautiful stuff, thanks to this one I'll grab ANYthing with Gordon's name
on it.
