How does this compare to Samuel Matlovsky's score to BIRDS DO IT (1966)?

Nancy and I had a great lunch where composer Gerald Fried (ROOTS, STAR TREK) finally received a poster of his Oscar nominated film BIRDS DO IT. ..BEES DO IT. Just scored a new STAR TREK type satire with the title UNBELIEVABLE. Coming this September. Way to go Jerry at 88!

Hey, he did not even have a copy of the score. I didn't until a few years ago.

This is the year when his fellow nominees were John Williams for JAWS, Jerry Goldsmith for THE WIND AND THE LION, Alex North for BITE THE BULLET and Jack Nitzsche for ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST and as I said to him his score totally belongs on that list. I can't think of another documentary score with such variety (and I include wonderful ones like THE HELLSTROM CHRONICLES and VICTORY AT SEA). Jerry even explained his intelligent use of electronics. They were used for animals on the cellular level like amoebas. Then partially for insects. Above that all traditional instrumentation. Smart.

Somebody should put this out, one of very few Oscar nominated scores that got no release whatsoever.

No, I am a little over 6'1". I had lifts put in my shoes so that I might measure up to Gerald Fried who, as everyone knows, is a giant.
