As I was listening to it last night, I was struck by how well it flowed - from the songs to the score and back again, with interesting electronic textures throughout. My favourite part is no doubt the groovy Peter Gabriel song (both versions), while my least favourite part is the tracks with a female vocalist wailing eastern sounds. They just remind me too much of cheap "Mood" CD's. It actually made me think Graem Revell has potential. I never look forward to his scores. This one turned out to be different. You're in luck, he did. The singer is Emma Shapplin, and he did a whole album for her afterwards in the exact same style. It's called "Etterna" and you can get it at amazon. I think it's fantastic, but then their collaboration was my favorite thing about this vastly underrated score, one of Revell's best, most of which never even appears in the film. THAT'S what I was thinking about when I said "cheap mood CD's". Or alternatively those "Moods, vol. 1-10" CD's that also include chirping birds and brooks. These are so OBVIOUSLY therapeutic that they lose all their therapeutic value. At least for me. And I got some of the same feelings in a couple of those RED PLANET tracks (although to be fair, the Revell/Shapplin tracks were slightly better and more sophisticated...I said they were my LEAST FAVOURITE parts of the album, not that they were BAD).    Posted:   Apr 11, 2004 - 12:12 PM     By:   Ricky   (Member) I've got it from a store that was practily giving it away, and I was very surprised. I love it!!! I find it smart the way they make you think it's a song cd with a few score tracks in it, when it's actually the other way around. The Saint has some excellent tracks (opening, the love theme, the final), and it always seems like he's on the verge of getting really good, but he's not there yet for me. I like his score for the Van Damme movie Hard Target. Some neet use of Kodo, the Japanese drummers. I like the intense percussion stuff on The Siege. The fast techno stuff on Tomb Raider is decent. I wonder why? Seems like a prime candidate. Most of the score remains unreleased, contains thematic material, it's a SciFi title which should give it cross-over appeal.
