Is it possible to have a disc be playable as both a SACD AND a standard CD? Would it play in a DVD with imporved sonics? Does a DVD-Audio disc play in a standard DVD? Once again, any noticable sound improvement?

I was reading the packaging for a DVD audio title, and it makes it seem as though you CAN play them in a regular DVD player. Apparently, there are two or three ways to play it, and DD5.1 is the option of DVD players. I could be wrong, but the packaging does not tell you that you can only have a DVD audio player to listen to the music.

That's right. DVD-A disks can include a DVD-V section. A DVD-V player will just ignore the DVD-A files.

Oops, sorry. I boo-boo'd. Yes, you can certainly play an audio only DVD in a standard DVD player.

As has been said, if the DVD-A carries standard DVD-V data, "normal" DVD players can play it.

As for sound improvement: DVD-V supports uncompressed 2-channel audio and compressed 6-channel audio, while DVD-A supports 6-channel audio uncompressed. So there should definitely be an improvement in sound quality, though I don't know how drastic the difference will be.

... and of course it's all moot unless the music one's interested in is available in the format. http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/wink.gif">

Folks,

I'm just wondering If any one can tell me if there was a detailed review of soundtracks on the FSM print magazine covering the various albums on different format for SACD, DTS, DVD Audio. I do remember reading a very good analysis on the level of a Buyers Guide- discussing the pros and cons of the albums. Maybe I read it online somewhere? So if anyone can help- pls. Thanks.
