I have been in love with motion picture scores and John Williams' music since I saw the opening credits to the 1974 Marc Robson movie "Earthquake" that had John Williams' grand and powerful Main Title music playing on a giant screen. I for one get sick and tired of people complaining that Joel McNeely sounds like Williams, SO WHAT. If there was a composer who's scores could sound like Jerry Goldsmith circa 1965- 1980 i would take him and buy up his soundtracks in a heartbeat. Any homage of styles to great composers like Goldsmith, Williams, Horner, John Barry, etc., I will thankfully appreciate. It allows their music to live on. If i could have Rogue One in the style of Williams, composed by McNelly, AWESOME! The whole story is set around that "time" anyway. I like Desplat, but he is no Williams, and something tells me that if he was ordered by producers to compose something that "sounded" like Williams, that he wouldnt be capable of doing it, not like a McNeely could. I mean really, i got sick of people complaining how Horner copied himself, and now he is gone. I would love a world where there was a Horner to copy himself, so that i could continue hearing his music until i left this earth myself. I think Mr. McNeely is THE most under-reated composer in Hollywood. He is a talented composer in his own right, and I would bet he has the talent to sound like ANY composer, if thats what he was asked to do.
And as for the winers, be glad that there is someone who can perpetuate a Willams style, or a Godsmith style, or an Alex North style, instead of complaining. sheesh.

Pretty shocking that this is where some of us are as fans, that we will gladly accept the worst of the temp tracked scores of the '90s over the bland, themeless temp tracked scores of today.

This score drives me crazy.
I don't know if I love it because of the temp-track riffs or despite them!
Apart from the ones already noted, there is the tragedy trumpet bit from Born On The 4th July and the Race to the Line (Finish?) track steals copiously from a piece by Aaron Copland.

If you don't mind my asking, what was your alma mater? At MY alma mater, CMU, Charlie Haid wasn't my mentor, he was my classmate. Well, strictly speaking, he was a graduate student while I was an undergrad. I'm surprised to hear that he had such an unkind assessment of IRON WILL. Did he happen to elaborate on that remark? Next time I bump into him I must ask him about it.

Not surprising as the film is a literal by-the-numbers adventure, so predictable they actually hold up signs at each cliche!
