I got this CD belatedly today. Fantastic. Thanks to the producers. No, it's not complete. Immediately I can see the following cues are missing. (This is not a whinge, it's an observation) The triumphant advance just after Dunbar's suicide run (but this is just the same as the album version of the buffalo hunt) The percussive music when Dunbar first realises there's a Sioux intruding on his camp. The majestic horse riding music when Wind In His Hair first rides by. The two cues when Dunbar first approaches the Indian camp (with the injured Stands With A Fist) - the flourishing one, then the foreboding one. The sweet flute theme as Dunbar leaves the Sioux camp at the end of that scene. And the orchestral version that follows when a Sioux delegation turns up at the fort. The mournful music when Ten Bears recalls the repulsion of previous invasions with Dances With Wolves, much later in the film. The short cue when Stands With A Fist cries because Dances With Wolves hasn't returned to join the exodus to winter camp. The version of the Two Socks theme, when Two Socks finally takes food from Dunbar's hand. The music when Two Socks dies, just before "Rescue Of Dances With Wolves". I'm not complaining. Though I would have given some of this music more priority than the Fire Dance, and presenting both film and album versions of the John Dunbar theme. Cheers

The two cues when Dunbar first approaches the Indian camp (with the injured Stands With A Fist) - the flourishing one, then the foreboding one. Yeah, that to me was a highlight of the score. Too bad it didn't make the cut. Of course my only real misgiving is that I can't find this CD anywhere! Paul

I've just remembered another missing cue: the short tense cue when Smiles A Lot is menaced by the buffalo, in the buffalo hunt sequence. I re-emphasise though, I'm not complaining. Merely documenting what still remains. Cheers

woolston, I have a question for you. You talk about a missing cue and refer to the "triumphant advance" after the suicide attempt. Is this where the soldiers storm in and Barry plays the Dunbar theme but he really rocks it? Lots of rhythm. This cue was on my old tape, and it was my favorite Dunbar theme rendition. Is that the one that is not anywhere on the expanded version? (Thanks for the information.) I think you're talking about the album version of the 'Buffalo Hunt', which has a very similar statement of the Dunbar theme. That is on the new CD, so no fear.

I haven`t heard the new album. That`s why I have to ask is "Dances with wolves" really one of the very few scores where you need every single note ? Just asking. Sometimes less is more. And sometimes some omissions result in a better listening experience. Take the original "Rambo:First Blood II" for example.

You don't need every single note, but some of the music still omitted is good. I would say that some of the still-unreleased music is needed more than album-and-film versions of the John Dunbar theme. I know what you mean, though. I bought the expanded Basic Instinct and, if anything, it's weighed down rather than lifted by all the extra music. Cheers
