warning to buyers the new thorn birds cd is incomplete. track one main melody has no dulcimer in the beggining which i got this cd for after waiting many years for this and these idiots at varasesaraband forgot to bring up the dulcimer on track one . already talked to ginni mancini and she has aknowleged this embarressement. you'de think during mixdown the ninconpoop would have caught this, it sounds lik a demo recording that would be like buying doctor zhivago without the balalika in lara's theme. they even mention in the liner notes about the track " main title " with the dulcimer

It's a great score nonetheless, and well worth buying and owning. If there is a mistake, Varese will put it right. Meanwhile, this is one of the best efforts of an outstanding composer. Pay no attention to the rantings of this whoever-it-is.

Do you really suppose that anyone would take anything you say seriously when you can't even write a coherent post in some sort of recognizable English. I tell you, I read this blather on these boards and it is to wonder where even the most basic literacy has gone. You, sir, are the nincompoop. You talked to "ginni"? Try spelling her name correctly and someone somewhere might actually believe you sometime around the twelfth of never.

OK, so we have two choices.

Buy a 2CD set with lots and lots of great Thorn Birds music.

Or have nothing.

A no-brainer, surely.

Cheers

I'm right far more often then that.

It just that you don't like it when I am.

First, the 2CD set is marvelous - full of excellent examples of Henry Mancini at his dramatic dest, and the sound quality of the recording is fine as well.

As for the Main Title, I have to admit, I was a bit curious myself about the dulcimer referred to so prominently in the notes, and I think I will follow Mr. Thaxton's suggestion and inquire - politely - if the folks at Varese have any plans to correct the omission. Everyone is human, even soundtrack CD producers.

The Thorn Birds is a gorgeous double CD. I've no idea whether they messed up one of the dozens of cues. It's crammed full of gorgeous music.

Buy, buy, buy.

Bye bye.

So I WAS right! It sounded like some incomplete mix from the beginning! Sorry, folks and Mancini fans, but how can you just totally ignore this glaring mistake of not mixing the MELODY into the MAIN TITLE and bash the one who dares to mention it? "Oh well, wonderful music, screw the main title, who cares?" ?!?

Uhmm..hello...?! How can something like this happen? Doesn't anybody listen to it before they press it? Varese surely has to replace the discs: THE THORN BIRDS is simply faulty.

Hey, the main title misses the dulcimer - so what?

This is, without any doubt, the finest CD I have bought this year and probably in the last two or three years.

What would we do without Varese? I have no problem whether they fix it or not - it does not stop me enjoying a fantastic Henry Mancini theme (which is very well presented with the dulcimer in "The Thorn Birds Theme, track 14) and another two staggering hours of some of the finest television music ever composed.

The theme is present on numerous occasions with dulcimer intact.

Yeah, but it's so much fun to stomp around and have a good rant!

more on this subject, as a bandleader believe me the public and audience lets me know when it doesn't come out right and i respect their opinion and welcome it!! i did not have the advantages of a proper education growing up so to the gentleman who complained about my illiteracy i welcome your opinion and i respect it!!im thick skinned. but i tell you there is to much complacency and mediocrity in the world today and its accepted!! i may have been on a rant but thats our god given right for all of us

I appreciate your CD review. It is the kind of thing I would like to know before spending my money. Hopefully, Varese will correct this on future releases.
