Just listening to the score from 'Lighthorsemen'
again. It's incredible. Has the composer Mario
Millo done anything else of note? Only in
Australia, you say? Etc.

Hello Bob. Sorry I don't have an answer for you here. I saw your question and just wanted to add that I viewed the laserdisc of 'The Lighthorsemen' about 3 weeks ago. Fantastic film with truly epic set-pieces. That score - damn it's so good too, I can see why you'd ask about further works by Millo. Hope there are some answers for you.

I've never heard THE LIGHTHORSEMEN but I have Mario Millo's PAWS which is great. It's pretty light and enjoyable music. The down side is a lot of dialogue clips on the soundtrack.

I've never heard THE LIGHTHORSEMEN but I have Mario Millo's PAWS which is great. It's pretty light and enjoyable music. The down side is a lot of dialogue clips on the soundtrack.

The old vinyl version of the score to Lighthorsemen contained only a fraction of the cues on the 1M1 CD (which is, as stated above, quite stunning, though still incomplete!) but the B side contained excerpts from his score to Shame (which was about a female delinquent, and nowhere near the same league as a score and movie). I still love the opening cue of the wild horses running through the fields, and the staccato theme for the Germans.

Incidentally, although the Lighthorsemen was an Australian film (and the R4 DVD is a good deal longer than previous UK and US VHS versions, and with a DTS soundtrack in case you want to track it down), as it was directed by Simon Wincer big chunks of it ended up in an episode of the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles in which Indy participates on their legendary chage on Beersheba (Lighthorse were mounted infantry, and never usually charged).

The Lighthorsemen is a great score, and a very enjoyable film..... and it can still be purchased from Australia from the label that issued it OneMOne records....

Also if you do a search of the site there are other Millo releases available.

The site features a currency conversion routine; and the prices aren't too bad even including the "recommended" insurance. I'm surprised that none of the big boys (Intrada, Screen Archives, e.t.c.) imports at least this title, given that it really is stunning (especially once you've seen the film).

Yes, it's a stunner...a John Williams-esq feast.

I'm not sure if any of his other scores can touch this one.

Noticed that the download and streaming sites have dropped this fantastic gem of a score recently. Has the licence expired, Ford? I'm kicking myself for not getting this while it was available.

I've never heard a note of this or any of Millo's music, but the enthusiasm in this thread sure has me interested now!

You will not be disappointed. An incredible score, can't fathom why Millo didn't get more high profile work following this. Too bad the streaming sites don't have this anymore. Note to self: stop procrastinating about purchasing those downloads, they won't hang around forever.

Thank you for pointing this out. The score is phenomenal - I bought mine as 1M1 went under (no pun intended) some years ago after Mr Joffe recommended it. Its especially great if you're looking for a fun Goldsmith-style adventure score.

Ford, if possible could you please let us know if the licence for this download has expired, or if it's an anomaly? Thanks.

This is a superb action/adventure score that hits all the marks - heroic main theme, exciting action music & romantic love theme. This appears to be Millo's sole foray into this kind of "old fashioned" symphonic film scoring. Hearing this will make you want to hear more from him along these lines but I gather this was a "one and done" kind of event for the composer.

The movie is also worth seeking out.

It should be available again in the next few days on ITUNES,etc

Also the BSX site will be offering it as a 24 Bit Download/ITUNES Friendly Download and a digital booklet when you purchase the CD.
