One of Elmer bernsteins finest scores is for the 1959 Warner film, The Miracle.
the only recording was a so so recording Elmer did for his film music club years ago - barely half an hour out of the 79 minutes of music in the film.
lukas, any possiblility of getting this off the actual Warners soundtracks sessions?

Our prayers have been answered, Joe. It only took 55 years :-}

I wonder what the contents will be on two cds if the score is only 79 minutes.

LOL Id prefer another Miracle, Manderley - that one in Fatima !

Even though it is in mono, I am thrilled beyond words that THE MIRACLE is finally being released. "Miracles are happening every day!"

A more appropriate pairing would be "The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima." smile

Geez, guys! Come on! smile

Anyone......ANYONE......could suggest THE MIRACLE OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA
as the other score!!!! smile

But, since philiperic said the score ran 79 minutes and asked what could be put with it,
I spent an inordinate amount of time smile searching for a filmscore with the word "Miracle" in it---
one that might have some comedic back reference to "THE Miracle"---and then crafting a
joke in which the title of the newly suggested extra score adds "more" (as in disc running time) to the "miracle" of the previous score of 79 minutes!

(I realize now that I should have written the title MORE THAN A MIRACLE to project the REAL thrust of the joke.)

Even though we come to the Board every day and read threads endlessly, we are often so serious around here. Does no one enjoy the structure of writing, the fun of unexpected references, or even of wordplay that is simplistic, as this joke was? smile

Oh, well......we already HAVE "More Than a Miracle" on CD, so I'll join Bob and philiperic and vote for THE MIRACLE OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA, too.....at least for a future release.

(On second thought, maybe THE MIRACLE could be paired with MIRACLE OF THE WHITE STALLIONS! Both the movies have horses and riders in 'em!) smile smile

You are right, Manderley - sometimes we cannot see the forest for the trees..

I would suggest, upon consideration , that perhaps a beter companion would be MIRACLE OF MORGANS CREEK with a score by the neglected team of Charles Bradshaw and Leo Shuken(plus two songs with lyrics by Preston Sturgess) , for this classic comedy , an appropriate counterbalance to the heavy melodrama of THE MIRACLE-

And a star even prettier than Roger Moore or Carroll Baker- Miss Betty Hutton! smile

Fantastic news about a soundtrack CD of "THE MIRACLE". But when is it due to be released?

Next Tuesday, we'll get all the disc details when Intrada officially announce it on Monday.

We all got the joke (at least I did). It was MY attempt at humor that was less than humorous (not to mention coming in second with it.)

It has been mentined there are some vocals.
I doubt they are Carrol Baker, but a dubber. I have a freind who is a freind of Miss Baker. He has promised to contact her.

It really is exciting that this relatively forgotten score has risen from the ashes - thanks to Intrada - I hope some of the naysayers will take a chance on Elmer Bernstein's name alone to buy this . I believe that it is easily the release of the year for Golden Age fans(although Kritzerland has been the best company for that era).

Im positive that it isnt Carroll singing - it is obviously a trained singer. When I talked to Ms Baker(in 1981), I told her that this was one of my favorite films of hers - she thought looking at the lobby cards I had from it that her daughter Blanche looked a lot like "Teresa", the character she played. She also took great pleasure in recalling working with Roger Moore - who was at the height of his career playing James Bond back then.

Re: Intrada's upcoming release of Elmer Bernstein's "The Miracle"

I'm ashamed to say that I am totally ignorant of both the film and Bernstein's music for it and hope to learn more before Intrada releases it next week. Anybody care to tell me about it and maybe what it's like? Thanks!!!

It's a mystery to me as well. I can't remember a cinema release at the time, & I've never seen it on the telly (in the UK).

It certainly had a standard cinema release in the UK on the ABC circuit because I saw and enjoyed it. I also remember a TV showing many years ago.

I guess everyone didn't buy the Bernstein box of re-recored scores from FSM, one of the titles being "The Miracle".

I have the Bernstein re-recorded The Miracle, it's OK I guess. I like the film performance much better. So, I'm very excited about the forthcoming CD of original tracks. smile

I just went to Netflix and found, from 1991, "The Miracle" with Beverly D'Angelo, which I added to my streaming queue. Is that the one?

The last time I did that, I had to order the DVD of "Man, Woman & Child" just to hear Georges Delerue's music in anticipation of a release of a CD, but wasn't at all impressed, although I admitted at the time that maybe with a decent recording that allowed us to actually HEAR it it might be worthwhile.

Is that the right version, with D'Angelo?
