It's not a great film by any stretch, just a Western in outer space. The score though, is superb!
So is Star Wars.

I seem to remember somewhere that 'Hot Water' wasn't written by Goldsmith though?...anyone able to confirm my dodgy lacking memory, or am I barking up a wrong tree?!
If it wasn't a Goldsmith piece, they wouldn't have put it on the album, don't ya think?
And speaking of ballet, what about a collage of Outland's Hot Water, Total Recall's End of A Dream, Air Force One's The Hijacking, US Marshall's Following Chen, Timeline's Prep.For Battle/Victory, a piece from The Swarm, Hollow Man's Bloody Floor and topped of with POTA's The Hunt?
How's that for an adrenaline pumping, jumping, dancing, running and high velocity ballet?

Great idea but please add JG's 13th Warrior's "The Fire Dragon" to that list and you got my cash for a first row seat on that ballet.

Hey, Maurizio, I'm on a Goldsmith roll these days as well, and we have now come to #14 in my collection, the GNP CD that combines OUTLAND with CAPRICORN ONE.
OUTLAND has a few highlights, and I agree that "Hot Water" is a nice action track. But CAPRICORN ONE is the REAL gem on this CD. From the propulsive main title to all the avantgardistic harmonic progressions that underline the desperation of the protagonists. I rarely have the time (or stamina) to listen to this album all the way through, but both of them are properly lengthed (OUTLAND is perhaps a little bit too long), and coupling them on one CD was a good idea.
Yeah, CAPRICORN ONE rocks as well. I was listening to it in my car last week and I have to say this: don't play the "Breakout" cue while you're driving!!  I own the same disc with the two scores coupled and it's a nice, enjoyable listen from beginning to end. Speaking about CAPRICORN, I'm amazed at Goldsmith's ability to create a rich tapestry using almost only one theme. I love the rhythmic ostinato on which the main theme is structured, especially when it's pounded on low, heavy piano chords (a true Goldsmith trademark--probably James Horner thought the same when he was composing ALIENS, because he used/quoted that ostinato almost verbatim).
What is very curious about CAPRICORN ONE is that the album recording has a much more rounded, lush sound in comparison to the dry and spare orchestration of the film recording.
