Of 896 actual physical discs (not including, dupes or comps), and limited to composers represented by at least 5 titles in the collection, one arrives at a total of 620.

And they are:

136 - J. Goldsmith
100 - E. Morricone
38 - M. Jarre
38 - J. Williams
28 - H. Shore
24 - B. Herrmann
18 - A. North
18 - P. Sarde
18 - D. Tiomkin
17 - E. Bernstein
17 - J. Horner
16 - E. Goldenthal
15 - M. Steiner
13 - F. Waxman
12 - J. Barry
12 - A. Newman
12 - M. Rosza
11 - G. Fenton
10 - B. Poledoris
9 - L. Rosenman
9 - John Scott
8 - H. Friedhofer
7 - P. Doyle
7 - D. Elfman
6. G. Delerue
6. L. Schiffrin
6 - V. Young
5 - J. Fielding
5. T. Jones
5 - L. Rosenthal

Of course, certain composer’s figures would rise (as would the collection as a whole, naturally) if either mp3s were summed in or that infernally nagging WISH LIST were ever fullfilled (most of it being “Golden Age” material).

Lists, lists, lists....

Resurrecting this one ...

As of this week I own 257 soundtracks on CD (not equal to the number of actual physical discs and not counting compilations) from 64 different artists/composers.

They break up as follows:

I'm working on achieving a better Gaussian distribution. big grin

As hinted above I'm currently surfing on a Golden Age wave and I'm pretty much enjoying the ride. So I think the supremacy of Morricone and '60s/'70s stuff will in time become somewhat "smoothed out". But it will always be the focus of my collection because it's the reason I fell in love with (listening to) soundtracks.

A good two years have passed...

Currently owning 404 scores (incl. suites) on CD (after a recent "cleansing" of my non-score CDs that's roughly 2/3 of my entire CD collection) from 82 different artists/composers.

Score-only wise these are the stats:

Only listing composers with at least 2 scores in my collection:

Independent from charts & statistics I guess the trend with more Golden Age scores is going to continue for me because that's the era I still love to explore and enjoy a lot.

4+ years on another self-indulgent update... wink

Currently owning 631 scores (incl. suites) on CD ("SKU-wise" that's roughly 70% of my entire CD collection) from 146 different artists/composers.

The stats (scores only):

The composers with at least 5 scores in my collection:

Realizing that most of this thread's content is from the end of 2004 - with additional posts of more recent vintage, I am nevertheless intrigued by the paucity of (non-Morricone) Italian composers as well as Golden Age Hollywood.

I'll deposit my Golden Age data (pre-1964) in a subsequent post later on, but in this entry are Italians who were writing for films prior to the Italian industry's obligating their composers to follow Morricone's soundtrack blueprints.

114 titles by Piero Piccioni
76 by Ennio Morricone
66 by A.F. Lavagnino
65 by Carlo Savina
48 by Armando Trovajoli
43 by Riz Ortolani
34 by Carlo Rustichelli
32 by Mario Nascimbene
18 by Giovanni Fusco
16 by Piero Umiliani
12 by Gianni Ferrio
11 by Roberto Nicolosi
9 by Gino Marrinuzzi jr
8 by Francesco de Masi
6 by Teo Usuelli
5 by Marcello Giombini
4 by Roman Vlad
3 by Alessandro Cicognini

There are more than those above, but my focus here is upon the pre-Euro-Western/pre-Leone era since it seems that most U.K./U.S. FSMers cite Morricone (but hardly any other Italians) within their top 10s or top 5s.
Could be, also, that there exists greater consumption of Italian soundtracks in the Japanese and German markets - but such customers likely don't frequent this English-centric message board...

For my Golden Age category, I've gathered those composers whose filmographies contain more than a couple of titles prior to the mid-'60s shift towards pop music scoring. This includes 'Silver' agers who began writing for films during the late-'50s/early-'60s.

180 by Jerry Goldsmith
70 by Elmer Bernstein
58 by Bernard Herrmann
44 by Alex North
42 by Franz Waxman
34 by Hugo Friedhofer
31 by Miklos Rozsa
31 by Leonard Rosenman
27 by Dimitri Tiomkin
23 by Gerald Fried (includes private pressings)
21 by Bronislau Kaper
20 by George Duning
(considering all his TV episode scores from the '60s, Dominic Frontiere would be @ 20, also)
18 by David Raksin
17 by Ronald Stein
17 by Laurence Rosenthal
14 by Alfred Newman
14 by Andre Previn
13 by Leigh Harline
12 by Sol Kaplan
12 by John(ny) Mandel
10 for Daniele Amfitheatrof, Paul Sawtell & Bert Shefter, Malcolm Arnold, Nathan Van Cleave, Mikis Theodorakis, & Richard Rodney Bennett
9 by Henry Mancini
8 for Max Steiner, Les Baxter & Lyn Murray
7 by Benjamin Frankel
6 for Victor Young, Kenyon Hopkins & Ernest Gold
5 by Leith Stevens
4 by Herschel Burke Gilbert
3 by David Amram
