I think is an excellent score not to be missed by anyone. The little "carol" of main title with so much innocence is worth the whole thing. Similarities in the construction of action cues to "Basic Instinct" are there..but in my opinion more of a good thing is very welcome.
Rating 3 outta 5. decent effort. theme's good. in track 3 or 4 there's a VERY BONE CHILLING short passage where after a short string attack a very eerie flute is playing one ore two soft notes.
also the Clues cue is great. rest of the score is subtle, atmospheric, at moments even tense. mostly soft and subdued and not as intelligent as the 5 outta 5 Basic Instinct.
occasionly I like this album very much. rnning time of 30 mins is OK.
I actually enjoy this score more than BASIC INSTINCT, which I also admire but feel is vastly overrated and don't enjoy as much, standalone. The Main Title, Clues and The Body tracks - which comprise over half the score on CD - are examples of faultless Goldsmith scoring, featuring a beautiful but unsettling main theme, flowing and questing travel music and propulsive and jarring shock music, the latter recalling his classic POTA score. This is a latter years Goldsmith score that holds up well in comparison to his classic works.
Dreadful movie, but again the score by Goldsmith is good; I like the 'clues' track a lot. I find this score overall more accessible than basic instinct.
It was a rather trashy film, with great cameos though by Anne Bancroft and George C Scott but fairly entertaining nevertheless. Some risible dialogue from Nicole Kidman, delivered in a laughable way to Alec Baldwin in a moment of supposed passion made things even worse.
The score is okay, far from Goldsmith's best. One thing made me chortle when the film came out, was one reviewer of the CD - I know who it was - commented about the opening 'it sounds like one of those Rolf Harris Stylophones form the 1970s - sorry!'. One can tell instantly it was an electronic keyboard sound, not a stylophone and it is actually a crucial element of the plot (where the boy playing the electronic keyboard in his bedroom turns out to be blind and wouldn't have seen the culprit anyway ). A case of needing to see the film before commenting on the score, methinks! This was an instance of Jerry using the theme as source (diegetic) music and also underscore (non diegetic). The female choir didn't really gel with the dramatic element but I guess the composer was scoring the girl's school with this. I must admit, been so long since I've seen the film, I don't want to misrepresent the score as it is in the film.

"With Malice" is a combination of two completely separate cues, "The Handyman" is abridged, and the first minute of "The Body" isn't used in the film. I'm positive it was originally intended to cover the end of the previous scene (where "No Choice" occurs).

I enjoy it immensely. Of course, BASIC INSTINCT came before this one and definitely inspired parts of this. But still, it has its own character and tremendous melodies.
While "Malice" has long been a "guilty pleasure" for me, I have to confess that its music never stood out for me -- I feel like one of those moviegoers who completely ignore the music, which, of course, I'm not, but except for what I remember as a lovely cue near the end, I haven't any recollection of it. So I'm going to have to pull out my DVD one of these days to refresh my memory!
