The guts of the Williams Superman theme is a military styled march, with an american lilt to it. I wonder if that comes about with military service plus recollection of comic book antics of Superman doing his bit in WWII?

There is some american band foot-stomping music in Black Sunday. I see the Superman March as being derived from that brass band-like origin with American patriotism coming through loud and clear in the full-bodied symphonic rendering.

Yes. Some of his SUPERMAN chord progressions found their way into his 1941 score soon after.

Let's see: even in 78 I don't think the story veered too far from network USA, although he does turn back the entire planet, which does enlarge his scope to be a bit more universal . . . I guess!
