I picked up 8 LP's from this series last week at a Thrift Store for $1.00 each. It seems there was a total of 12 LP's completing the collection but I just found 8. I'm interested about the history of this series. If anyone can share what they know. I do remember that Ed Sullivan often featured Original Broadway Musical Scenes with the Original Stars on his show. Those were great. Were these recordings specially recorded or are they from the telecasts? Hopefully I will find the 4 that I missed out on someday. The ones I purchased are listed below and are most enjoyable. Again, please reply if you know further info on this series, who conducted etc. They were released in 1959. Also, you gotta love that LP Cover photo of Ed Sullivan with his "Neon" blue eyes. Thanks.

About time to resurrect this old thread ED SULLIVAN presents LPs.
I think I still need the ones I mentioned. Anyone have the whole collection?
Here's me and Ed and my "KING AND I" Ed Sullivan Presents LP!
As a youngster this LP was my introduction to THE KING AND I and Rodgers & Hammerstein. I eventually broke the record and my mom replaced it with the Capitol soundtrack album, stating "this one is better". She was right! The soundtrack album introduced me to Alfred Newman and his scores, all before I was 10. I was so disappointed when I finally saw THE KING AND I movie and realized that several songs included on the soundtrack LP did not make it to the final release version.
Ironic considering Ed was culturally illiterate! He was a goodsportswriter though.
I don't think Mr. Sullivan is the culturally illiterate one here. Mr. Sullivan did more to bring culture to the masses than any other TV personality. What an idiotic, ill-informed statement, but then we'd expect no less from you. Irony indeed.

When I think back to the variety of acts that I was introduced to as a kid and that were enjoyed by my family on The Ed Sullivan Show, I lose count and am amazed. The show had something for everyone to enjoy, from Bo Diddley to Itzhak Perlman; from Elvis Presley to the Doors; from Topo Gigio to the Muppets. This is a mere whit of what I recall. We rarely missed a show and I was still watching when it went off the air. I still go to YouTube to catch some of the acts. Good times!
