I believe an improved sound quality edition is now available from Aleph.
Fortunately, I heard the CD before buying it and was apalled by the sound quality.
The 20 odd minutes from my old LP sounded much better so I stuck with it.
Now a soundtrack collector I know has returned his original copy and had a superior sounding replacement. This poses some issues... if you buy it from certain retailers now are you getting the bad sound version that they've had in stock for some time or the new improved ?
Hmmmm, very strange.

I bought AH at a record store awhile back and I got the terrible sound quality one, I then found out that Aleph redid it with better sound so I sent them an email, I explained that I got it at a record store but the sound was bad, they sent another one with much much better sound, no questions asked.

Aleph replaced mine too. No questions asked. I bought my original copy from Intrada.

Does anyone else find these "sound glitches" a bit...spooky? It's as if someone or something didn't want this music to find the light of day...

Hi Dai, hey, while you're on, can you pass Roy a copy of Call of the Wild by Holdridge for me.
My copies got that annoying distortion on track 17 - during the great bit with the choir - I believe you've got a perfect copy.
Cheers matey.

I ordered mine direct from Aleph when it originally came out and got a bad one. One e-mail later I was the recipient of a brand-new replacement with no hassle whatsoever. Best customer service in the world!

Thanks again..

One more thing, this Amityville CD, is it the original score (as heard in the movie and on the old LP) or a re-recorded version ??

Is there any way to visually differentiate the bad-sounding discs from the good-sounding ones? A different catalogue number or something?

I've been thinking about buying this disc for a while, and I'd really like to get a good one.

It's a re-recording. Performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Schifrin) in April 2002 (per the liner notes). However, don't let this disuade you from getting it. The playing and recording are absolutely brilliant (IMO), a remarkably faithful rendering of the original score.

I'll be honest, based on the CD I have, I have strong doubts that it's a new recording.

to my ears it really sounds like the OST that has been reprocessed.

I'll review the new pressing to see if I hear that much of difference.

I bought it when it first came out and it sounds s--t. How do you suggest I go about getting a replacement?

(I didn't buy it from Aleph)

Cheers

I thought some was ost and some additional music was rerecording.

As far as the re-recording issue, i'm a bit puzzled how folk could think it was the original soundtrack recording. If you listen to the original issued lp and also the music in the film, the new recording is substantially slower in pace (too slow!). The vocals also seem less child-like. Unless the original elements were completely re-altered for this recording, it doesn't sound to me at all like the original.
Apart from the soundproblem issues, this was the reason that I was disappointed in the new release. It just doesn't seem to have that feel that the old soundtrack had.
