"If you listen to the original issued lp and also the music in the film, the new recording is substantially slower in pace (too slow!). The vocals also seem less child-like. Unless the original elements were completely re-altered for this recording, it doesn't sound to me at all like the original. Apart from the soundproblem issues, this was the reason that I was disappointed in the new release. It just doesn't seem to have that feel that the old soundtrack had" -----------------------------------------
Spot on, that's how I felt when I first heard it - I'm so glad I never bought it and still don't wanna take the chance - the LP transferred to CD is most excellent and contains the best 20 some minutes from the film. I'd love a double-header re-release with a killer 30 mins from Amityville with a whopper 40 mins from Amityville 2.
Thanks Kevin for this useful topic. I ordered a defective copy of AH some months ago to a US dealer and am very glad to hear a clear pressing does exist. As I would like to recover it, does someone has a reliable e-mail adress to reach Aleph Records ? - I can't find one on the label website. Thanks in advance.
Hi everyone. I bought the Amityville Horror CD when it was released in 2002, and the sound quality was horrible! Last week, after reading this post, I wrote to rders@schifrin.com">orders@schifrin.com and explained that I had purchased a Amityville Horror CD with horrible quality at a local store. I requested if they would replace it if I returned it to them. Two days later they wrote back and said they would replace the CD if I send the bad copy back to them. I sent it and got a new improved sound quality CD in the mail within two days! There is a huge difference in the listening experience now.
I would imagine the one being issued on their own site is the good sounding one, the older poor sounding ones are probably out and about in various HMV's and Virgins etc.
I want the original tracks darn it! The vinyl sounds fantastic. The orchestral detail is great and you don't get that "Wheel of Pain" instrument grinding through every single track.
A cd relase of Amityville 2: The Possession would be a treat too.
So after all this time has there been any definite answer as to why the original film tracks have never been released. Especially now since most of the major studios seem to be really cooperative with all these great new releases.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's an elements issue for both the Amityville I & II original recordings given their original companies and change of studio hands. I believe both are now MGM properties.
If it is a matter of tapes, then I sure hope they get found soon. Great new finds are still being made, especially by Intrada.
I asked in the other thread.... Does the fact Lalo's label did and put out his re-recording mean he has the rights to it and effectively cancel hope of the original appearing?

It's possible, although the Aleph releases of BULLITT and THE CINCINNATI KID did not prevent FSM from subsequently releasing those scores.
