I re-listed to this one tonight, and still think it's fabulous TV scoring. Just too bad it was never comercially available, and that the complete music for the series wasn't included on the promo. Thoughts?

Chris Stone is a marvelous composer. His work on Fist of the North Star is wonderful (if poorly performed at points). Tale Spin is lots of fun! I'd like to hear more from him.

I can''t believe he''s got a mention here!!

I love the theme song, which suprisingly for a kids cartoon show uses a sizable cuban jazz ensemble. There''s a fine tuned real horn section, real percussion, real bass to the sound of some incredibly well integrated linn drum programs and 808 toms. The only let down is the Roland D50 panpipe sample solo. It seems Disney were one of the rare ones in that they would fork out on real sessions musicians at a time when kids shows were all scored MIDI. Mark Muellers Ducktales has some comparably classy arrangements.

Anywhere we can get the promo from? Does it have the amazing Shere Kahn theme??

I'd prefer Ron Jones's (IIRC, anyway) music for Duck Tales myself...

(edit: There's some here: http://www.ronjonesproductions.com/pages/DemoRlsMP2.html
not to mention TNG and Family Guy music)

I've been mentioning him for years on this board. He composed the scores for many A&E documentary productions, and also composed works for The History Channel.
I have his cd soundtrack from the A&E series hosted by Danny Glover, Civil War Journal. It was released on Greystone Communications (GC 181-65) and also his score released on cd to The History Channel production The American Revolution (AAE-80024). Both of these I believe are out of print now, but well worth seeking out.

Any chance on Intrada reissuing the promo, preferably with more music from the series? This is terrific stuff.

His score for the 1997 Predator rip-off DNA *needs* to be released. It's so damn awesome. Here's the end title suite I posted a million years ago:

I'm all for this. He also wrote the music for two Don Bluth video games, Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. Would love to have that music as well.

Also, a couple of promos; "Pirates in 3-D", and "Special Effects,Anything Can Happen". Would love to see these happen
as well!

Was this an Intrada-produced promo? I don't think it was (unlike the various Rosenthal, Safan, and Broughton promos Intrada produced). I sold my copy on eBay a month or so ago (for $56!). Not that I didn't like the CD, but time and space are finite.

Pleased to find another Tale Spin thread on FSM. I had thought there wasn't much interest.

If you're still about, Andy, thanks for that interview. Gratifying to know he thought it a fantastic project!

If I had known you had a copy of that CD SchiffyM, I would have made an offer. Chances are I wouldn't have hit the heights of $56 though!

hi litefoot

the talespin cd is one of my treasures and i would by a commercial release in a minute.
Perhaps Intrada had a chance to do it, after teh disney deal and after the release of Duck Tales.

Its worth having and thanks again to Mr Stone !
He is so talented and perhaps we finally get a chance to get some Dragons Lair, if Don Bluth/Gary Goldman get it finanzed
a shame that such talents are forced to get finanzed with kickstarter or indigogo, when others get Millions for rubbish frown

I am hopeful for TaleSpin. However, very few people ask for it - unlike DuckTales which gets many requests - and I fear Intrada will pass if they don't think they can sell enough units. The same applies to Rescue Rangers and Gummi Bears. We are in the dying days of CD and labels pick their projects more carefully than they used to. They can make some money out of big titles, which allows them to release the small ones, but would TaleSpin be something they'd go for?

If Disney had contracts with other labels like LLL and Kritzerland, I would have been more positive, but they only choose to work with Intrada, so we have to pin our hopes on one label alone.... and for the last nine months they've halved their output!

You also have to consider that Intrada have yet to release a score from an animated TV show. Treasure of the Lost Lamp is the closest we have got. That's the thread I hang on to. I can see them doing a DuckTales set, but not the rest of the Disney Afternoon stuff.

I'm realistic about what to expect - which is nothing, in this case. We'll find out over the next few years!

I found this interview with Christopher L Stone which includes a discussion on his work for Disney's Tale Spin.

Christopher L.Stone is way too underrepresented. He is a really great "old school"composer and his scores are rich.Check out TREASURE ISLAND and THE STUPIDS if you haven't already.
