No, it's an official release (with so-so artwork; Barry conductor 'only'... - the gold disc edition didn't give him any credit on the front cover at all) by Label X (i.e. John Lasher’s Didgeridoo label). Lasher's behind the labels Southern Cross, SCSE, Preamble, Label X and Didgeridoo)

This re-release reportedly should be in SACD format, it can be played on any good CD player as well.

At last! After so many years of waiting. Artwork looks poor but I don't care. The music is so beautiful and heartbreaking.

As far as I know this is a hybrid SACD so it can be played in regular CD players.

btw, John Lasher is also behind 5th Contitent label.

But I don't think he's behind Didgeridoo. I got the impression from him that he is leasing the soundtrack to them.

Lasher strikes again.

And last I heard, he had created the Didgeridoo label when he moved to New Zealand.

I could be mistaken, but....

So far it seems everything they've released has been something formerly released on one of the Lasher labels. Hard to believe it's not his...

Funny question. I don't believe anything ever release by Lasher has been limited.

Many thanks for the help. I'm sorry, but I've never heard the name of that label before and I therefore do not know their policies.

Lasher's policies - if he has any - are difficult to understand. He released many, many soundtracks in limited number but then, later, most of them get rereleased (High Road To China, Krull, Dragonslayer, Body Heat etc.). It's marketing. Many years ago he announced that he lost interest in releasing his back catalogue. Anyone interested, make him an offer. - I have no idea why he founded so many different labels in the past.

The cover art seen at Buysoundtrax' just now possibly isn't the final one (it looks so poor). They seem to push the presales a bit before the US holidays really start the consumer's rush. - BTW, last year, Buysoundtrax offered special shipping rates during Thankgiving Holidays (free within US, a flat $ 5 for international shipping). I hope they'll do it again. You won't get a new copy much cheaper than now, I guess.

Try finding a copy of the SCSE "Body Heat" CD... It's never been officially reissued, though there has been a rerecording (Varese) and a Japanese bootleg release featuring both the SCSE (OST) and the Varese rerecording all on a single disc. The SCSE release was supposed to be the last chance to ever get the original soundtrack on CD.

This is the same photo of Jessica Lange that was used on the cover of the original SCSE (Lasher) release.

Dana,

I thought it was released at least twice by SCSE because Barry objected to the original CD that included the Williams fanfare? Or maybe I dreamt it. It's been awhile. Or was that just on the vinyl version?

@Dana

Body Heat on SCSE has its price, if you're willing to pay it you find that CD on Ebay about every single month/year. I pruchased a mint copy 8 months ago for £ 50.

Body Heat got its first release on Label X (LXCD 5), never seen a copy though. Then it was rereleased on SCSE; I heard rumors that it also got a rerelease on Gold Disc (SCSE CD-1-G), but I've never seen it (Gold Discs exist from High Road, Frances, Krull and Dragonslayer). - So far about Lasher unlimited limitations.

Yes, the picture from the new Frances CD is kind of thumb nail image from the original cover art. I(t) could have been made a bit more classy.

I don't know... I think you're classy enough just the way you are!

I am virtually certain that the only "Label X" release of BODY HEAT was the LP, an audiophile disc recorded at 45 rpm for increased fidelity. (I sold my copy after the CD came out.) Having been on a perennial search for a more complete recording of the score on CD, it's hard for me to believe that either a reissue of the SCSE edition or a "gold disc" release could have slipped past me, but perhaps I just slept in that day...

If you have the SCSE release and are looking for a more complete recording (as I am), beware the boot (listed on Ark Square) which describes itself as an "expanded edition" -- it's merely the SCSE release and the Varese rerecording all on a single disc. When will I learn?

Speaking strictly about the Lasher LP and CD releases, Williams' "Ladd Company Logo" was included on both of them. The Japanese boot (on a nameless label) with both SCSE and Varese recordings omits the Logo. I also remember discussion of a rerelease of the SCSE (OST) minus the Williams Logo, but as far as I know nothing ever came of it.

For my money this is the Barry score to have if you could only have one, his most effective work ever (IMO).

Attention John Barry fans! Check buysoundtrack.com website:
http://www.buysoundtrax.com/frances_jbarry.html

Frances CD now contains 13 tracks! I could swear that few days ago it contained one track less :-) Added track is enigmatically titled "Epilogue (A Portait
of Frances)" and is quite long(6:43).
