I also wanted to add my belated rave about this CD, my favorite of the year--this had just about all the missing Johnny Williams stuff I wanted (ironically the music I was most searching for is contained within the track "Monkey Doo"), the Dr. Smith music from "Welcome, Stranger" and most of all Leith Stevens' incredible "Blast Off Into Outer Space." What a fantastic score that is! From the earthquake cue with its Poltergeist-like brass riffs and thrilling rhythmic play to the cool thematic writing, the almost medieval-sounding brass theme for the mummy, and the climactic space action material based on the family theme which is like something out of North's Cleopatra. Stevens is an incredibly underrated composer. It's almost jarring going from that incredibe modernism to the 40s throwbacks of some of the later-seasons "camp" material but I also love Gerald Fried's insane space hippy score--I'd actually forgotten his ingeniously bizarre, huffing and puffing "Sampson" theme for green-haired Dr. Smith, music that defines just how infinitely weird this show managed to get...and wrapping everything up with Robert Drasnin's wacky "Space Walk" cue, the end of countless laughing-it-up denouements of the show, is pure genious. Hats off to Ford, Michael, Mark and everyone else involved in this release!
"Blast off into Space" is such a wonderful score as mentioned here. Leith Stevens really nailed the mood and the fun of it all. This score got the first color episode and the first show of the second season off to a terrific start. A wonderful addition to the signature Johnny Williams cues. This 2 CD set is just "Lost in Space" manna in every respect!
