Amazon prices are always grossly inflated. You're better off with eBay.

I also wanted to add my belated rave about this CD, my favorite of the year--this had just about all the missing Johnny Williams stuff I wanted (ironically the music I was most searching for is contained within the track "Monkey Doo"), the Dr. Smith music from "Welcome, Stranger" and most of all Leith Stevens' incredible "Blast Off Into Outer Space." What a fantastic score that is! From the earthquake cue with its Poltergeist-like brass riffs and thrilling rhythmic play to the cool thematic writing, the almost medieval-sounding brass theme for the mummy, and the climactic space action material based on the family theme which is like something out of North's Cleopatra. Stevens is an incredibly underrated composer. It's almost jarring going from that incredibe modernism to the 40s throwbacks of some of the later-seasons "camp" material but I also love Gerald Fried's insane space hippy score--I'd actually forgotten his ingeniously bizarre, huffing and puffing "Sampson" theme for green-haired Dr. Smith, music that defines just how infinitely weird this show managed to get...and wrapping everything up with Robert Drasnin's wacky "Space Walk" cue, the end of countless laughing-it-up denouements of the show, is pure genious. Hats off to Ford, Michael, Mark and everyone else involved in this release!

"Blast off into Space" is such a wonderful score as mentioned here. Leith Stevens really nailed the mood and the fun of it all. This score got the first color episode and the first show of the second season off to a terrific start. A wonderful addition to the signature Johnny Williams cues. This 2 CD set is just "Lost in Space" manna in every respect!

Blast-Off Into Space is one of my favorite LIS scores--probably my favorite not written by Williams. Interestingly, in the book "Irwin Allen Television Productions" the author states that it's the worst score of the series and the worst of Leith Stevens' output! It's not the only crazy statement in that book...

Just love that this thread got bumped up! Can never celebrate and enjoy LIS music enough!

Plus, now that we're basking in the afterglow of the ST:TOS Box Set, I have to marvel at how lucky we are. Who ever thought we'd have, pretty much, all the music from these two cherished shows? Maybe we don't have "all" of LIS, but like many fans, pairing the LLL and Irwin Allen Box Sets creates as complete a LIS set as possible.

My imagination has been captivated by the soundscapes of both shows, and all their marvelous composers, my entire life. What would we do without this stuff?

I also wish to cast a vote for Stevens' "Blast Off" as arguably my favorite non-Williams score of LIS. Such a pleasure to see the topic pop up again today.

I really love what started it all , "The Reluctant Stowaway" and "The Hungry Sea". The music perfectly complemented the tension and drama of those episodes. Even as a little tike I remember how effective the musical score was, and how it drew me into the story. Never would have dreamed 40 years later this music would be available.
