I'm glad there is at least one 2005 soundtrack around I really like. Wonderful music! The only thing I'm worried about. Nobody seems to care about that particular score. Discussing King Kong to no ends only. "About Schmidt" was good too (however the use of Satie there, is a bit vulgar). - Rolfe Kent should score a Bond film.

Actually, Sideways came out in 2004, but there you go. How do you like King Kong? I enjoy this movie and want the soundtrack. Unfortunately, I lost my primary job the day after getting the movie on DVD, so I'll probably be parting with it (along with a lot of others) after having had it a short time. We'll see, though. SIDEWAYS got its theatrical release last fall over here. And I missed it! There I go... King Kong? What's that? I've never seen that one...

I like the title of this thread. Mr. Kent was asked to ape a temp track filled with Dave Brubeck music and he did a fine job of doing just that. Knowing someone who played on the sessions, he didn't write a lot of it - just asked the players to improv. And the central piece of music in the film, of course, isn't written by him at all - it's by Claus Ogerman, from his album Symbiosis with Bill Evans.

Brubeck shines through the music. - Funny thing, Alexander Payne, the director got his temp inspiration from Piero Umiliani's jazzy scores from the 60s/70s, then you find little of that Italian style in it. And yet, for so little efforts from Rolfe's side it's such an effective score IMO.
