I'm glad there is at least one 2005 soundtrack around I really like. Wonderful music!

The only thing I'm worried about. Nobody seems to care about that particular score. Discussing King Kong to no ends only. wink

"About Schmidt" was good too (however the use of Satie there, is a bit vulgar). - Rolfe Kent should score a Bond film.

Actually, Sideways came out in 2004, but there you go. How do you like King Kong? wink

I enjoy this movie and want the soundtrack. Unfortunately, I lost my primary job the day after getting the movie on DVD, so I'll probably be parting with it (along with a lot of others) after having had it a short time. We'll see, though.

It's a 2004 score, King Kong is a 2005 score.

I'm not too familiar with it, but I did like it in the film, and I heard one track of it, which I played over and over again. I've been meaning to pick it up, haven't got the chance yet.

SIDEWAYS got its theatrical release last fall over here. And I missed it! There I go...

King Kong? What's that? I've never seen that one...

I like the title of this thread. Mr. Kent was asked to ape a temp track filled with Dave Brubeck music and he did a fine job of doing just that. Knowing someone who played on the sessions, he didn't write a lot of it - just asked the players to improv. And the central piece of music in the film, of course, isn't written by him at all - it's by Claus Ogerman, from his album Symbiosis with Bill Evans.

That's true. Brubeck shines through the music. - Funny thing, Alexander Payne, the director got his temp inspiration from Piero Umiliani's jazzy scores from the 60s/70s, then you find little of that Italian style in it. And yet, for so little efforts from Rolfe's side it's such an effective score IMO.

Did anyone pick up the LP that Silva Screen released in 2015? It was pressed on Burgundy vinyl.

I missed this back when ya'll posted originally. I LOVE this score. Though I am not a huge Jazz music fan, I do enjoy much of it, even though I haven't a clue as to who I am actually listening to. This score CD is a great listen while traveling and it always uplifts my spirits as it is fun and energetic and I always wondered what style or artist that Kent was emulating. Thanks for the info and I will look for more of Brubecks music and maybe even Clause Ogerman.

See, this is why I still like this site. Every once in a while a nugget of info comes our way that may enrich our lives, no matter how trivial it may be. wink

Dave Brubeck is legendary in the jazz world. You've probably heard Take Five before--it's a jazz standard and one of the most famous examples of an odd-time signature in popular music. I've never heard the soundtrack but I remember enjoying this film. May have to revisit.
