I would like to think that the reason Powell never did another score after Ladyhawke and the reason Toto never did another score after Dune was because they didn't have a clue what they were doing and wrote awful scores.
Actually, Powell did something called ROCKET GIBRALTAR in 1988 (which I haven't heard). As most know, I like both LADYHAWKE and DUNE - both inside their films and outside.

I enjoy both scores as well, DUNE more than LADYHAWKE, and neither are really awful. LADYHAWKE is just incredibly wrong (at certain moments) for the subject matter. At least David Lynth discussed what he wanted with David Paich for the DUNE score. Did Richard Donner ever talk with Andrew Powell about musical ideas/concepts for the score for LADYHAWKE?

Yes. He wanted the Alan Parsons sound and got it (for some of the tracks). By the way, we can continue the discussion of LADYHAWKE in the following thread, for example:
Speaking of Andrew Powell...the 1st movement (Prelude) from the "Fall Of The House Of Usher" suite on ALAN PARSONS' TALES OF MYSTERY AND IMAGINATION album is gorgeous!!!
Very much in the programmatic vein - it's a shame he didn't go on to write some major film scores. Can't say I'm much of a fan of "Ladyhawke' but this 7 minute movement amazes me everytime I hear it...

Indeed it is, as are ALL of his orchestral music for Alan Parsons (and including LADYHAWKE). People just tend to focus on the symphonic pop bits (which are also entertaining in their own way).
Totally agree! And in a real "blast from the past" moment, I just noticed that the original poster here in 2001 was me - in my former profile name of TV's Frank!
