Firstly 'Soldier Blue'. Depends on the rights holders. I transferred all of Roy's personal tape archive to disc for his widow Sylvia a couple of years back and there was some Soldier Blue material, but I don't know if was the same as the album release or original soundtrack.
As I said the CD will be available shortly - but isn't up on Amazon yet. It should be any day now though.
Sylvia Budd has spent a lot of time and energy putting these releases together and I'm sure wouldn't appreciate being described as "sort of idiotic". This is her first release and it is self published so problems may occur like not being able to buy outside the UK. I will, however, mention this to Sylvia and see if there is an alternative way of doing this.

First of all this surprising Roy Budd announcement deserves a separate thread...
It is absolutely fantastic news for the film music community and for any fan of Roy Budd, like myself, that this great composer's score to 1929's Phantom Of The Opera is finally receiving some type of a first release, meaning the DVD release. I am very glad to hear that there will be a CD release soon as well. I thought this was it.
Is Mishka Productions Sylvia Budd? I emailed them through Amazon and noted their domestic shipping policy and my inability to get this. Perhaps it's a mistake on their part and selected domestic instead of international shipping as they were posting Phantom Of The Opera on Amazon.
My down thumb and the 'idiotic' comment (I'll remove them) was for Amazon and basically for Mishka (not Sylvia Budd) and for the annoying fact that I cannot get this and that it cannot be purchased and shipped to anyone outside the UK. There is another retailer below Mishka selling it for three times as much and international shipping is possible.
Please Give Sylvia Budd my/our warm-hearted thanks for this long-awaited release, which personally I thought would never materialize, and for her efforts which will not go unnoticed - I WANT TO BUY THIS! - and are very much appreciated.
I dont recall any Budd scores, so I'm curious to hear what this is like. Are there any sound samples or videoclips of his PHANTOM score? None on Amazon, and the youtube clips I've seen have classical music.
Received the CD and the DVD today - after a first listen all I can say is: WOW ! The CD is 59:23 min. long - to hear the complete score you have to buy the DVD (with 93 min. length). But the score and the movie quality is worth the price - I never saw such a good copy of this classic film (with all colored/tinted scenes in it). A very lyrical score with a wonderful melodic Phantom Theme (which sounds in part familiar to me, something from Horner or Williams, but I can't get it at the moment) - it's a pleasure to watch the film with Budd's score !
Sadly, the booklet is a little bit thin with veeeery small informations about the background of this project. But the music is a masterpiece - you can hear the typical Budd style in the melody and orchestration, but this time in an all-orchestral dress (apart from one piece which has a very soft rhythmic accompaniment, but it functions well). Congratulations to Mishika Music for releasing this treasure - I hope for further releases from you...:-)
Now I know it - the "Phantom Theme" sounds very similar to a part of the "Dune Theme" by Toto... :-) Any opinions about the score from others who bought this ?
I'm late to this game but this is a GREAT score - Big, romantic in that expansive late 19th/early 20th century style, with great orchestrations and memorable ideas abound. A highly satisfying listen that I recommend heartily. At its finest, it's positively Straussian!
I wish Budd had been able to write more straight-orchestral scores. This, SINBAD AND THE EYE OF THE TIGER and FIELD OF HONOR are fantastic works with real harmonic, melodic and orchestrational creativity. He really understood orchestral color very well and his melodic sensibilities weren't far behind. He was taken from us far too early!

The good news is I am now working with Roy's widow Sylvia and we are going to produce a one-off show of Roy's masterpiece at the London Coliseum in Oct 2017. Spencer Down will be conducting a 77 piece orchestra in this amazing opera house venue, which holds significance as it is the same venue Roy performed in as a 6 year old child prodigy, which was broadcast by the BBC.
We are really excited to be doing this, and the should be officially announced next week.

This is awesome. I shall be there!. Many years ago my Father would tell me about Roy. As a teenager I was not really interested. Two years ago I looked at my ancestry....indeed as my father had told me, I was related to Roy. I wish I had met him for sure, Jazz runs through my veins and the first time I heard his music I connected with it totally. Well done to Sylvia for ensuring that this masterpiece will get the exposure it deserves. Brilliant.
