Does anyone know if there is CD that has a track of John Williams conducting "What a Feeling" from FLASHDANCE?

I once saw a clip of him conducting it live in concert and it was hilarious. He was totally rocking out. I think it was a Tanglewood Concert or something. The image of him rocking out was so cool. There was also shots of some Village people looking guys in the audience wearing hot pants and rocking out with Johnny. This was classic stuff. Anyone have this on CD or Video? I'd love to see it again. Or at least hear it and conjure up the visuals from memory.

No idea about Williams, but it's on the Kunzel/Cincinnati Pops CD called, I believe, Love Songs from the Movies.

Interesting that you mention the sight of Williams conducting. I was sitting in the first row of Monday eve's NY Philharmonic concert pretty much to the side so I could observe the maestro's facial expressions and other body movements really well. He is amazingly expressive, not only with the baton, but with his fingers and face; a joy to behold. No wonder he is one of the composer and conductor greats of film music. The opening piece from Herrmann's "On Dangerous Ground" blew the audience away. It sounded a bit like some of "7th Voyage of Sinbad". I'm looking forward to seeing the concert again tonight.

You're probably thinking of an 80's Boston Pops concert. I've seen the clip too. Incredibly cheesy stuff, but Williams is indeed waving his arms more ferociously than usual. smile I don't think the FLASHDANCE track has been recorded on any of the Boston Pops CD's.

WTF?
I dont get it - so you announce to everyone that he is the greatest composer conducter ever because he.... smiles and frowns? And maybe a bit of mouth opening too?

I now know that I am right with the American obessesion with John Williams.
You should be an outsider to this view sometime, it's quite frightening - what's the word? Sicophant?

There was a MAD magazine parody sometime in the late '80s called "Special Episodes You'll Never See" or something like that. There was a caricature of Williams conducting Run-DMC with a caption: Hip-Hop Week on Evening at the Pops

It was from the 1984 July Forth concert with the Boston Esplanade orchestra (Which I assume is the Pops). No Williams material, but it does have that clip of Williams practicalyl dancing to FLASHDANCE which was hillarious to see.

Very sportsmanlike, IMHO. Moroder's "What a Feeling" won 83's Best Song Oscar. Moroder's "Midnight Express" had famously won Best Score the year "Superman" didn't, and Williams' ROTJ didn't win its nomination in '83. But a rockin' hit IS a rockin' hit, after all.
